St. Michael's Academy

It's hard to believe that the holidays are upon us! It seems as though were were just beginning the school year and now the celebration of Christmas is only three weeks away!

Our annual Christmas Program is next Tuesday and Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Church. The students have been practicing for many weeks and you won't want to miss a minute of this touching and beautiful program.

It is so easy to get caught up in the glitz and glamour of shopping and gift-giving during the holiday season. Let's remember to celebrate Christmas in our hearts where Christ remains a steady and guiding presence. Help your children realize what a powerful and awesome gift they hold!

Have a great weekend.

Ms. Ann Dougal

News from Mrs. Ruell - Kindergarten

This Advent season the class will be learning about
Christmas customs around the world.

Did you know that in France, Pere Noel brings gifts to good girls and boys? The Christmas tree comes from Germany, and was originally trimmed with apples, thin cookies and candles. Christmas in Mexico is celebrated with Posada, a nine day celebration where children go from house to house asking for shelter just like Mary and Joseph did so long ago. Christmas in Sweden begins with the Festival of Lights on St. Lucia Day, December 13th. And in Australia because it is the summer season, children eat their Christmas dinner at the beach!

The world is a wide and wonderful place filled with children eager to celebrate this Advent season.

Academics/Classroom Happenings -

Taking A Closer Look in Gr. 7 Science

Students in Grade 7 were busy this week in Science class with Miss Brown.

In the first phase of the lesson, students used a mircoslide projector to examine plant and animal cells and recreated on paper their findings.

Then the students "kicked it up a notch" and looked at the plant and animal cells using the digital microscopes.

But students were most impressed when they swabbed the inside of their mouth and created a slide! Yikes!

Our students in grades 3-8 had the opportunity to attend confession on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. Thank you:

Fr. Peter Ha Dinh Dang from St. Paul the Apostle Parish
Msgr. David Joyce from Holy Name Parish
Fr. Mark Mengel from Holy Name Parish
Fr. Ryan Sliwa from Holy Cross Parish
Fr. Jacques Coley from Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Parish
Fr. William Pomerleau from Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Parish

for making yourselves available to the students of St. Michael's Academy.  We appreciate you!
