St. Michael's Academy

  :

Last night, 54 students graduated from St. Michael's Academy. As Monsignor Connelly reminded us in his homily, the students were awarded graduation certificates because they had earned them. The Class of 2015 represented St. Michael's Academy well. We congratulate all of our students and their families and pray for God's blessings upon them.

On Monday we begin our final week of school for this year. We look forward to the Kindergarten Closing Ceremony, Field Day for grades 1-5, and our final day on Friday. (Please see the Reminders section for specific times.)  On Friday, our last day, we will celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving at 9:30 a.m. followed immediately with our Awards Ceremony. We hope to see many of you there as we give thanks to God and pray for a safe and happy summer vacation.

Enjoy your weekend!

 Peace,

 Ann E.Dougal

Congratulations to St. Michael's Academy Class of 2015!

Admissions

I had the pleasure this week of watching 54 students graduate from St. Michael's Academy. What a beautiful occasion. There was a certain level of pride and maturity evident on every graduate's face. Even more proud, were the parents, family and friends gathered at St. Michael's Cathedral.

These students are bound for bigger and better things, equipped with what they need to succeed. They will be missed by many. They have left their mark on each and every faculty and staff member who have watched them grow over the years and blossom into responsible young people.

Nicely done students. St. Michael's Academy looks forward to watching you continue to grow and succeed in the years ahead.

Classroom Highlights

From The Desk Of...Miss Brown - Grade 7

The students have investigated our beautiful world from the microscopic to the majesty of Cobble Mountain. We discovered the diversity of life and how complex our water treatment facilities are. We learned that our natural world is both spiritual and full of scientific possibilities.

Sharing Our Heritage

Our 4th Grade spent some time this week having students make a presentation about their heritage.  Ireland talked about her Irish heritage and shared different facts about the country of Ireland.  She brought in an Irish knit sweater, bread and a pair of step-dance shoes. Her uncle came in and played the bagpipes! The students were treated to a little demonstration of Irish step-dance as Ireland and Colleen danced, followed by Mrs. Senecal and Ireland!

Eric gave a presentation about his heritage in the country of Kenya. He shared different facts about Kenya and told the students what a typical school day would be like. After that he taught his fellow students some

words in Swahili!

Benito shared with the class his German heritage. Joined by his mom, they both dressed in traditional German clothing and treated the class to yummy German desserts. The German chocolate cake was awesome!

Cathal shared some interesting facts about his Irish heritage. The students especially liked his demonstration of "hurling" which is a traditional Irish game.

Check back next week as more students share their heritage

with the classes!

Grade 4 Violin Recital

The 4th Grade violin students put on an amazing recital this week under the guidance of their teacher, Ms. Rachel Jones, from the Community Music School of Springfield. It's hard to believe the students have only been playing for less than one year! Nice job students!

Perfect Attendance

This week we salute Emily from Grade 5 for her perfect attendance last week.  Way to go Emily!

8th Grade Class Highlights!

   8th Grade Mass & Pinning

What a wonderful event! The first annual "8th Grade Mass and Pinning Ceremony" was a great success that captured a very special moment in the lives of our 8th graders. Bishop Mitchell Rozanski was joined by more than 150 donors, parents, faculty and grandparents to celebrate Mass and be a part of St. Michael's first pinning event. The Mass and presentation of the 8th grade students was held at Holy Cross Church. The group then gathered at the school where an SMA donor/supporter "pinned" one of the 54 graduating students. The event wrapped up with refreshments and a social hour allowing donors to get to know students and their parents better.

Eighth Grade Awards Ceremony

After the Mass and Pinning Ceremony, it was off to the 8th Grade  Awards Ceremony! Congratulations to St. John Bosco winner, Ben Russell, and St. Frances Cabrini winner, Kali Stasio.

Eighth Grade Graduation

And the 8th Grade finished an amazing week with their Graduation. Family, friends, faculty and staff were extremely proud as 54 students became St. Michael's Academy Alumni.

Field Days

The students have been enjoying their Field Days! The middle level students recently had their Field Day at Forest Park.

And the PreK and Kindergarten had their Field Day on the SMA Campus.

**PLEASE NOTE**

Field Day for Grades 1-5 will be next Wednesday, June 17th.
Grades 1 and 2 - 9 - 11:15 a.m.
Grades 3, 4, 5  - 12:30 - 2:45 p.m.

Prayer Corner

St. Michael the Archangel, pray for us!

We pray for all St. Michael's Academy students, families, faculty, and staff, and their special intentions.

This week we pray in a special way for:
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Langone
Mr. and Mrs. James Tourtelotte
Mr. John Carberry
Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Syriac
Ms. Marilyn Shine

And we pray for all of our dearly departed.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

Our prayers continue to be with Mr. Rancitelli, who is undergoing treatment for a cancer recurrence. Each week, a different homeroom sends him cards. If your family would like to send a card, please send it to school with your child, clearly marked for Mr. Rancitelli. His family has set up a blog to write about this experience. Click here to read the blog.
