NYCEDC startup job fair and panel

The college hosts a job fair and panel organized by the NYC Economic Development Corporation Jan. 30. The Engineering Startup Fair will introduce Cornell students seeking employment with NYC-based startup companies (see CCNET for a full list of participants and openings). A panel discussion and networking session will follow. Listen to seven high-level startup company executives, including Birchbox CTO Liz Crawford and Next Jump SVP Albert Balcells, discuss their firms' cultures and the unique features of being involved in startups, then meet them at a casual reception with heavy hors' doeuvres. All Cornell students and faculty, as well as company recruiters are welcome.

Renovations update

Renovations in the Weill basement to build a biomedical engineering instructional lab are substantially complete and ready for use by students this semester. Proposals have been received from five architectural firms for the design of the Kimball Hall renovation that will provide more wet lab space for several college departments. The Olin 165 lecture hall was renovated over the winter break to increase capacity and improve front-of-the room capabilities for instructors. The Department of Materials Science and Engineering office renovation has begun with relocation of staff and demolition of the former administrative office area. When work is completed, MSE office will have a more recognizable entrance, better work flow, more privacy for staff and visitors, a new conference room, and refreshed finishes.
