DEP Reconvenes NPDES Advisory Committee
In July 2013, the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) released a report outlining the feasibility, cost, advantages and disadvantages of obtaining delegated authority over National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) Programs, to the extent permitted by federal law, from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).  Massachusetts is one of only four states (Idaho, New Hampshire and New Mexico) that are not authorized to administer the Federal NPDES Permit Program.

Last week, DEP reconvened its Advisory Committee to begin to discuss the necessary steps to move forward.  Many questions need to be addressed, including how much staff is needed and how to best fund it.

The Advisory Board, as part of its FY2016 Integrated Comments and Recommendations, strongly urged the Authority to join with the Advisory Board to actively pursue NPDES delegation authority with the current administration.

Advisory Board staff will keep you apprised on the status of these discussions.
Thank You Mayor McGlynn
As the Honorable Michael McGlynn, Mayor of Medford, leaves office, the Advisory Board wanted to take this opportunity to thank him for his 30+ years of service to the Commonwealth, the citizens of Medford and for all the ratepayers in the MWRA service area.

Mayor McGlynn was a State Representative (1977 to 1988) when the legislation creating the MWRA and the MWRA Advisory Board was enacted.

He has served as Medford's first an only Mayor since 1988 to the present.

Mayor McGlynn has always been a strong voice and advocate for ratepayers, standing with us for ratepayer relief and equity.  For this and so much more, thank you Mike!

Dedication of the John J. Carroll
Administration Building
On November 1, 2015, the Norwood Public Works Building was named for John J. Carroll.  John has served as Norwood's General Manager since 1978.

The $16+ million state-of-the-art facility will house all Department of Public Works activities.  Back in 2005, the MWRA Board of Directors named the Water Treatment Plant for Mr. Carroll as well.

John was accompanied by family members and friends.

The Advisory Board will have the opportunity to see this facility on March 17th when we hold our regular monthly meeting in this facility.

Congratulations to John!
