East Asia in World History Series -
5 Online Short Courses Covering China,
Japan, Korea and Vietnam

Join Our 2013-2014 Series!

AFE and NCTA are pleased to announce a new course series starting June 10th and continuing through 2014. Two intensive two-week courses take place this summer and the remaining 3 are each spread out over 10 weeks during the school year.

These are stand alone courses and you can register for any of them or take part in all of them for a broad overview of the histories of China, Korea, Japan and Vietnam. The lead specialist for the courses is Professor Harold Tanner of the University of North Texas.

Participation is all on-line and you may set your own schedule. The courses draw from materials on the AFE website (www.afe.easia.columbia.edu), providing an opportunity to become familiar with the classroom resources and primary source materials on the site.

Review the entire series here or look at each course at the links below. You will be asked to register on the site, if you have not already done so. (Registration is free.) Thank you!

- Expect to spend 15 hours per course (about 3 hours per session) perusing the materials assigned (video presentations, materials on the AFE website and your own history texts).

- Post twice for each session to an online discussion of the material.

- To earn professional development hours, complete and send your "teaching reflections" within two weeks of the conclusion of each course you take.*
