WOW Packed with

Activities for All!
The Vision of Wallkill community improvement group has been working hard to organize their Weekend of Wallkill, which will offer something for everyone Sept. 16-17!

The activities start at 5 p.m. that Friday evening, when the Beauty of Wallkill Art Show will be held in the Town Hall. Activities at the library will lead into a showing of Finding Nemo on the library lawn. For those who'd like snacks, the National Junior Honor Society will be selling items during the movie.

Saturday kicks off with the Town-Wide Yard Sale and continues with an entire lineup of activities and events throughout the day at various locations, including the library lawn, Garrison Park, the Friends' Used Book Shop, Town Hall, and the firehouse.

Free tours will be given of the Andre Dubois House and Knights of Pythias by the Historical Society of Shawangunk and Gardiner starting at 10 a.m.

The Wallkill Lions Club is sponsoring a Prime Rib Dinner at Popp's Pavilion from 4-6 p.m., where the day will wind down with a free concert that will feature The Mustangs '65 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

For detailed information on the weekend's specials and activities, visit VOW's Facebook page.

Library to Offer Special Weekend Programming
The library will be celebrating WOW along with Vision of Wallkill by offering a host of (not-quite) autumn programming!

On Friday, September 16, Miss Christine will be hosting a School Spirit program from 5-6 p.m. Join her in decorating banners, visors, and more!

A Pokemon Go scavenger hunt will kick off at 6 p.m., starting on the library lawn.

Also that evening,  special guest Sara Mayes, The Traveling Naturalist, will be teaching children ages 5 and up how to make homemade apple cider! Sara's program will start at 6 p.m. and run until 6:45 p.m. The library will remain open for this special event. Registration is required. Come and learn how to make your own cider, then stick around for VOW's 7 p.m.

showing of Finding Nemo on the lawn!

Saturday, Miss Dannie will be offering two Family Story Times - one at 10:30 a.m., and one at noon. If you're visiting the area for WOW festivities, feel free to stop in!

The Weekend of Wallkill will once again include a town-wide yard sale, and you're invited to participate!

If you'd like to be included on the map being created by the Vision of Wallkill, you can pick up a form at the library and either mail it in to VOW or drop it off at the library or Town Hall. The yard sale will take place during the day on Saturday, September 17.

Those who want to set up shop on the library lawn that day can contact wallkillvendorblender@gmail.com.

There's Still Time to Enter Photo/Art Contest!

Forms for this year's Hidden Beauty of Wallkill Photography and Art Contest are now available at the library.

The Vision of Wallkill fundraiser will feature photos, drawings, paintings, or craft art featuring subject matter visible from within the boundaries of the Town of Shawangunk. The Hidden Beauty of Wallkill theme is open to the artist's interpretation.

Entries can be dropped off at the library. All will be displayed during the Beauty of Wallkill Art Show during the Weekend of Wallkill Sept. 16 and 17, in the Town Hall.

September 10 is the deadline for submissions, so pick up your form today!
TV Personality

to Offer Shows

During WOW
The Friends of the WPL are very excited to bring some magic to Wallkill during the Weekend of Wallkill. On Saturday, September 17, Rogue, a magician who was on TV's America's Got Talent, will be giving three half-hour performances: 12, 1, 2 pm. He will also be selling magic tricks from his magic shop in Elmhurst, Queens and posing for pics.

Performances will take place under the tent that will be set up near the Friends' Used Book Shop. Reservations are suggested. Tickets are $5 each or four for $15. For more info or to hold seats, please contact Adrienne Perine by phone (895-8712), email (dramapearl@aol.com), or on Facebook (Friends of the Wallkill Public Library).

The Friends will also be holding our annual baked goods sale. We could use your help to make it successful. Cookies, cupcakes, and muffins are needed. Items need to be nut-free and individually wrapped. If you can help us, or if you need more information, contact Shelly at 895-2219.
Bullet Aid Funds New Literacy Computers

Thanks to Sen. John Bonacic, the library just installed two new early literacy computers downstairs in the children's room!

Sen. Bonacic notified the library earlier in the summer that his office was able to secure bullet aid that would fund the new equipment.

The new stations feature thousands of pre-loaded and multi-curricular activities, interactive e-books, and other resources to help ages 2 through 8 prepare for school. Kids have so much fun using the popular computers, they're not even aware they're learning!

Many thanks to Sen. Bonacic and his office for their continued support of Wallkill and libraries throughout the state.

Library Budget Vote

The library's annual tax levy & budget vote will be held from 12:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 20, 2016. The proposed 2017 budget remains within the tax cap with a smaller than 1% increase for the second year in a row (and less than last year's increase of .73%). This year's proposal calls for an increase of .68%, from $337,720 to $340,016.

In addition, two candidates are running for election to the Library Board of Trustees. Library district members Mary Lou VanAken and Dennis O'Mara, both active community supporters, will be on the ballot.

The voting will take place at the Wallkill Public Library, 7 Bona Ventura Ave, Wallkill NY 12589.

If you have any questions regarding the vote, please call 895-3707.
Rowing Club Hosts Contest Sept. 24

If you're looking for some fun the weekend after WOW, the Newburgh Rowing Club may have just the thing!

The organization's sixth annual Five-Mile Paddle and Oars Challenge will start at 8 a.m. at Ward Brothers Memorial Park, located at 2 River Street. The course begins at the Newburgh Rowing Club's Kennedy Family Rowing Center Boathouse, heads north beyond the Newburgh Beacon Bridge, then turns around and finishes at the NRC docks.

Participants will get a free event t-shirt and be treated to a pancake breakfast.

The fundraiser will benefit Ward Brothers Memorial Park, shoreline restoration, and the clean water projects of the Newburgh Rowing Club.

For more information or to register, visit the rowing club's Facebook page.

  Charm Pack Challenge

The Wallkill Public Library Quilters' Circle presents.....

The Charm Pack Challenge!

Come join the fun. All quilters are welcome to participate using as little or as many fabrics from the Spiced Potpourri Sampler Charm Pack from Connecting Threads (shown right). Pick your pattern or design of choice. And here is the best part-the big reveal isn't until June of 2017! That gives you almost a whole year to work on your project before "show and tell" next summer.

Anyone can take part in this challenge. To participate, simply purchase the charm pack on your own, and begin sewing!

For more information, please contact Carolyn Thorenz at cthorenz@rcls.org.
