Thanks to all who made this year's Summer Reading Program such a success! The 264 children and teens who participated this year read a staggering 3,079 books!
The adults weren't exactly slackers, either. The 100 adults who took part in the library's Adult Reading Raffle read a total of 534 books! We hope you enjoyed them, and congratulations to the gift basket raffle winners!
Summer is always a whirlwind of activity at the library, and we're sad to see it coming to an end, but library users have a lot to look forward to in the coming months! Stay tuned for some new and creative Pokémon Go programming, continued 3D-printing activities, teen meetups, job coaching, and more!
Danielle Cancel is taking over as children's coordinator as Carolyn Thorenz, who's been manning the children's room helm for the past six years, is moving upstairs to help with the circ desk. While Carolyn has developed quite a following downstairs and is loved and adored by many, we're sure you're going to fall in love all over again with Dannie. And the good news is, you'll still see Miss Carolyn at the circ desk! We're excited about the coming year, and we hope you are, too!

 Thank You to Teen Volunteers
A special shout out has to go to this summer's volunteers, who braved torturously hot temperatures (among other inconveniences) in order to help us out.
Speaking from experience, it's hard, sometimes, to get kids motivated to work even when you're paying them. Throughout the summer, these volunteers were ready, willing, and available at all times, always had smiles on their faces, and never had to be told twice to do anything. That's pretty impressive. A huge thank you to all:

Breakfast for the Boys Performs TONIGHT! To close the Vision of Wallkill (VOW) free summer concert series, Breakfast For The Boys will be performing at Popp Pavillion Thursday, August 18, (that's tonight!) from 7:00-9:00 pm.
Aubrey, a Gardiner native, was a runner up at the Hudson Valley Voice Vocal Contest and has been named Massachusetts Solo Artist of the Year. She describes herself as a whiskey-soaked & sugar-coated performing & recording vocalist. Don't miss out on this "rock and soul" talent!

 Local Businesses Rock!
This year, hamlet businesses partnered with the library to participate in Sneaker Stop, a scavenger hunt that required them to decorate their own sneakers and display them for SRP participants to find. We know it's never an easy task to take on an extra project when you're already overwhelmed with your own work, and we wanted to thank the local businesses who put in so much time and effort to help us:

PokéMania Hits the Library
Are you a Pokémon Trainer? Well then don't miss out on the Pokémon events going on at the library this autumn. We'll start off the season with felting a Pokéball and continue with a Pokémon Hunt around the library. The top three trainers to find the highest amount of Pokéballs for the Pokémon Hunt will receive their own Pokémon and Pokéball. First place will also receive a plush Pokémon!
Each event a trainer attends will earn them one gym badge. Collect them all!
The Wallkill Library is officially a gym in the Pokémon Go App. If your team takes over the library gym in the app, stop by at our Pokémon display downstairs to hang your team banner.
Stay tuned for more Pokémon events to come! While you're waiting, drop by down stairs and color your favorite Pokémon on our giant coloring sheets, take out some of our new Pokémon books, and test your skills with our Pokémon Master Trainer board game!

Operation Gratitude Sends Their Thanks
The contributions library users made to Operation Gratitude during the spring were much appreciated!
The non-profit organization that sends out care packages to servicemen and women and their families sent a thank-you for the library's donation of letters, Girl Scout cookies, handmade hats and scarves, and more....items that our generous patrons donated to the cause!
If you'd like to read letters of thanks from Operation Gratitude recipients, you can like or follow them on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, or Instagram.
