Trade Food for Fines in November!
|
Clear Up Your Library Fines and Help the Local Food Pantry at the Same Time
The annual Food for Fines Thanksgiving Food Drive begins November 2nd and runs trough November 20th. Gather together your food items and save on fines. Here's how the program works:
- We will exchange one fine for one non-perishable food item of any size.
- Fines will be waived only at the time of exchange for a food item.
- Good for previous or current fines, but this does not apply to replacement fees for lost or damaged items.
- There is no limit! If you have the food, we'll forgive the fines!
- Food items must be presented at the Circulation Desk.
- No items will be accepted in the book drop box. That's right, you've got to come in and see us in person.
- No expired food, rusted cans, damaged or opened items will be accepted.
Please consider donating the following items that will be used to fill Thanksgiving baskets for needy families in our community.
- Stuffing mix
- Instant potatoes
- Canned vegetables (green beans, corn)
- Canned sweet potatoes
- Canned or dry turkey gravy
- Juice
- Cookies
Donations of turkeys can be made directly to the Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry at the Wallkill Reformed Church. Call 895-2181. Thank you for your participation in this program!

"Secret Garden," an adult coloring book by Scottish artist, Johanna Basford, has sold over 6 million copies since its publication in 2013.

Color Your World!
Adult coloring books are the latest hot tickets at book and craft stores. The books feature intricate patterns and designs that are far too sophisticated for a child's hand. But for adults, they're a way to engage creatively with a relatively low barrier of entry: coloring is easier than most crafts like, say, learning to knit or crochet.
Join us as we explore this trend that is sweeping the world. Coloring Club for Adults will meet on Tuesdays beginning Tuesday, November 3rd at the Library, from 6:30-8:00 pm in the fireplace room. Supplies will be provided to get us started - colored pencils, colored markers and coloring pages. Bring treats to share. We'll have coffee and tea.

Archive Saturday
Have questions about local history or geneology? Like to browse through our collection of archival and local history materials? Want to peruse your old Wallkill High School yearbook? Archive Saturday is November 21st from 10 am to 2 pm. Matthew Thorenz, Contract Archivist at the Wallkill Public Library, will be available to assist patrons with genealogy and local history research. Our archives contain a wealth of materials that document the history and development of the Hamlet of Wallkill and Town of Shawangunk. Highlights include the Borden Photograph Collection, the Wallkill Central School District Collection, which has a nearly complete set of high school yearbooks from 1946 to 1995; and the Local Veterans Collection, containing images, obituaries, and service records of those who served in the armed forces from our area. You can browse these collections and view other local history materials by visiting our online guide. Due to the unique nature of our items, some can only be viewed after making an appointment. Please call (845) 895-3707 for more information, or to leave a question!
