Weekend of Wallkill offers up local events, activities
Cast members from Books Alive's children's theater group perform last year during the Harvest Faire, as part of the Weekend of Wallkill.
The second annual Weekend of Wallkill is coming up fast, and promises to offer popular favorites from last year in addition to new and exciting events!
A host of weekend-long activities will kick off with the Beauty of Wallkill Artists' Reception Friday evening, beginning at 4:30 p.m. Stop by the Town Hall community room then and check out the bucolic scenery of our area, as captured in paintings and photographs. It's not too late to enter your own pieces! See below for more information.
Saturday's events include a town-wide yard sale, which will take place throughout the hamlet. Yard sale spaces are still available for those who prefer to set up at Popp's Pavilion - call 895-2783 for more information.
Other events include:
  • a 5K walk/run on the Rail Trail
  • a business sidewalk sale
  • a vendor blender on the library lawn
  • tours of the Andries DuBois House and Knights of Pythias Lodge
  • Wallkill High School's homecoming weekend activities

Book club picks classic chiller for October
The library's Fiction Club will meet again October 20th, and mark the Halloween season with a spine-tingling read.
Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House will be that month's selection. The 1959 novel was a finalist for the National Book Award and is considered one of the best literary ghost stories of the 20th century. Members are also welcome to bring an Edgar Allan Poe short story of their choosing for comparison.
The Fiction Club meets monthly at 6:30 PM at the library. New members are always welcome.
Library video wins summer contest!

This summer's Behind the Scenes participants are award-winning actors, as it turns out!
Ana Wakeman's summer program involved making a video to enter into the Ramapo Catskill Library System's contest, "Tell your library story in 60 seconds." The goal of the video was to use one minute to show Gov. Andrew Cuomo why libraries are valuable to their communities.
Ana and her troupe did such a great job (as you can see above), they won! Their prize is a pizza party, to be held sometime in October.
Congratulations to all!
