Wallkill Public Library archives now open!
St. Elmo Mills (1886)
Since the opening of the first public library in Wallkill at Mrs. Dayton Relyea's home in 1900, the Wallkill Public Library has served as a hub of education, entertainment, and community growth for the hamlet of Wallkill. Over 115 years later, our library wants to share the unique history of our village and its people with you!
Starting in September, I'll be available to assist patrons with genealogy and local history research one Saturday a month, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Our archives contain a wealth of materials that document the history and development of the Hamlet of Wallkill and Town of Shawangunk. Highlights include the Borden Photograph Collection, a series of over twenty photographs taken in the late 19th century that document the construction of the Borden Home Farm and New York Condensed Milk Company; the Wallkill Central School District Collection, which has a nearly complete run of high school yearbooks from 1946 to 1995; and the Local Veterans Collection, containing images, obituaries, and service records of those who served in the armed forces from our area.
You can browse these collections and view other local history materials by visiting our online guide . Due to the unique nature of our items, some can only be viewed after making an appointment. Please call (845) 895-3707 for more information, or to leave a question!

Email blast to go out less frequently
For anyone who's come to rely on our library's e-newsletter (or "blast," as we call it) for news of upcoming events, programs, books, and more, we appreciate your loyalty!
We want to make sure we continue to put out only the highest quality material of the most interest to our readers. In an effort to accomplish this, we've decided to send out the blast on an as-needed basis. That means instead of receiving it every single week, you'll get an email when the library has an important announcement, update, or other newsworthy material to share.
As always, those who no longer wish to receive these emails are welcome to unsubscribe by clicking the link below.
We hope you'll continue to follow us, however, and want to remind you that to stay on top of library happenings in between blasts, visit our website!
