SRP closes with Flow Circus for Tuesday finale

Superhero Boot Campers detonated bombs (in the form of balloons) and wound their way through this laser maze to save a group of villagers Tuesday!
Next week not only marks the beginning of August (unbelievably), but the end of the 2015 Summer Reading Program!
Those who are logging their books, whether online or on paper, have until 8 p.m. Tuesday to get their reading done and their books listed! This is also the deadline for Quest documents to be handed in.
And this year there's plenty of incentive for readers to keep track of their titles - Paw Prints that can be used at Ostrander Elementary in the fall are given to anyone who logs their books. In addition, a special, invitation-only event will be offered at 3 p.m. Thursday for top readers, Quest participants, and book loggers! Those who receive an invitation via email (or a phone call, for those without computers) will be able to celebrate their accomplishments with this surprise-filled reception!
Though a few SRP programs (Family Story Time, Family Stories and MakeIt Space, and the Chess & Game Hour) take place once more next Wednesday, the SRP finale will be celebrated Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. Join us then on the library lawn - the Friends of the Library are sponsoring a peformance by  Flow Circus , as well as a bouncy house from 2-5 p.m.! Other festivities will include our annual ice cream social. We hope to see you there!

Sundays a chance to stay home, have fun
Last year, kayakers hit the waves of the Wallkill as part of a series of activities organized by VOW.
The Vision of Wallkill community improvement group is offering plenty of fun and exciting activities that won't take you far away from home throughout the month of August.
Those who love the outdoors will be able to take advantage of one of the hamlet's most prominent attractions when kayaking on the Wallkill River is offered Aug. 2, 16, and 30.
On those Sundays, from 9 a.m. to noon, visitors can meet at the boat launch by Popp's Pavilion and rent a kayak or launch their own. Kayaks will be provided by New Paltz Kayak for $15 per half hour, $5 of which will go toward VOW.
Plein Air Painting will also be offered by the Wallkill River School of Art on Sundays, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Classes will take place on the Wallkill River Walk, by Popp's Pavilion. Participants should arrive at 9 a.m. with their gear, after which an artist demo will be given from 9:30-10 a.m. Students will then paint from 10 a.m. to noon with one-on-one help from the demonstrator of the day. A group critique and local foods picnic will follow. Loaner materials such as easels, tables, chairs, paints, and other supplies will be available at each class.
The class schedule will include:
Aug. 2: Atmospheric perspective with Shawn Dell Joyce
Aug. 9: Painting with a palette knife by George Hayes
Aug. 16: Starting off with a strong value sketch by Gene Bove
Aug. 23: Making believable water reflections by Steve Blumenthal
Aug. 30: Composition 101 by Michael Piotrowski
The fee for the classes is four for $120 ($90 for Wallkill River School members), with the first class provided at no cost. Visit Wallkill River School's website to register.
Young patrons headline library video
Summer children's assistant Ana Wakeman's Behind the Scenes acting program turned out another hit this summer!
Ana and her troupe created a 60-second video explaining why the library is important to our community as part of a Ramapo Catskill Library System contest.
SRP participants may remember that last summer Ana directed and produced The Country Turkey, an original play by her brother, Lee Wakeman.
Thanks to Emma Caster-Dudzick for editing this year's video. Good luck, everyone!
