Monday registration starts
for SRP programs/events
For those who have signed up for the SRP (via the link on the library's homepage), Monday is your chance to reserve a space in all the individual programs and events that interest you!
Visit the library's online calendar or come into the library starting at 10 a.m. on Monday to sign up. Participants in each program will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis.
As always, the library will accommodate as many participants in each program that space and materials allow, but in some instances (such as the coding programs, 3D printing workshop, and Minecraft activities), availability is restricted to small groups due to the library's limited supply of laptops and other devices.
Don't be discouraged if a program is full, however - other opportunities for participation in very popular activities will be offered later in the year! And if one program is closed, there are plenty of others to keep everyone entertained this summer.
The library will call or email those who will be participating in a program to let them know for certain that they have a spot. If you are not contacted, it means the program filled up before you registered.
Coming up at the Wallkill Public Library

Hurds Family Farm celebrates summer

You can enjoy the start of the season as well as the taste of it during Hurds Family Farm's Summer Kickoff!

The New Paltz Chamber of Commerce will start the day off at 9 a.m. July 1 with a ribbon-cutting opening ceremony. Complimentary refreshments will be served during the event, including not only Hurds products, but other local offerings such as Susan's Homemade Treats.

A farm-themed story time will be offered for the kids at 10 a.m., and the fun continues until 5 p.m. with free entry to outdoor activities such as paddle-boat rides, pedal carts, and much more. Visitors will also be able to sample Hurds' farm-to-table products and see what's growing in the farm's Barnside Salad Garden.

Teachers - learn how to direct plays
For those teachers who don't have enough drama in their lives, the Theatre Development Fund is here to help.
The TDF is offering a summer course for teachers who want to learn how to direct plays and musicals in their schools.
The course will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 3-8 at Pearl Studios, which are located at 500 Eighth Ave. (at 36th St.) in New York. Stephen DiMenna, a senior teaching artist with the TDF, will be the instructor, and according to Books Alive! producer Adrienne Gelfand-Perine, he's a good one!
Teachers will learn how to direct and choreograph plays and musicals with their students for production within their school or classroom. Course participants will create their own production plans and directorial concepts, as well as rehearsal schedules and strategies for staging.
The course also includes two outings to Broadway and Off Broadway plays as inspiration and examples of quality directing.
For more information or to register, visit the DOE ASPDP website.
Next StoryWalk goes up on Rail Trail
There's now another reason to visit the local Rail Trail, besides the inviting path and peaceful surroundings.
Members of Brenda Griffin's Girl Scout Troop 60226 have posted a new book on the sidelines of the trail. The pages of Laura Ingalls Wilder's Summertime in the Big Woods are now laminated and on display along the paved walkway for bikers, joggers, and everyone else to enjoy.
StoryWalk is an initiative that combines literacy with exercise by allowing children to enjoy reading and the outdoors at the same time. Laminated pages from children's books are attached to wooden stakes posted along an outdoor path so that passers-by can enjoy a story as they travel.
Thanks to the Girl Scouts for this ongoing project!
