Quilters donate creation
The Wallkill Public Library Quilters' Circle recently presented the
Members of the Quilters' Circle pose with the Historical Society's Frieda Fenn (right, standing nearest the quilt) as they donate a hand-made quilt recently.
Shawangunk Gardiner Historical Society with a hand-designed "courthouse steps" quilt to be raffled off by the society at a future fund-raising event.
The quilt was made from the quilters' own "stash." This is one of a number of quilts the organization has donated to others over the past three years. This particular quilt was worked on during regular quilting meetings and when the group was together during the library's weekly Textile Tuesday sessions. Once the top was completed, the layers were sewn together by Barbara Hanaburgh. Fellow quilters Sherri Pullar, Terry Ryther, Audrey Keesler, Leslie Raymond, JoAnn Versusky, Mary Ferguson, Judy Gehrer, Lynn Wing, Pat Karnig, Carol Germana, and Carolyn Thorenz came together to hand sew the binding. The quilters were the featured guest speakers at the historical society's monthly meeting, where the quilt was presented to historical society member Frieda Fenn.
This was a wonderful coming together of community and sharing.
If you have an interest in quilting or any handmade arts, please join us tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the community room of Town Hall for Textile Saturday. This makerspace event will feature yarn, fabric, and paper demonstrations, paper-piecing, a show and tell, and the start of a Mystery Quilt Block Challenge! Bring a project of your own and come and go as you please throughout the day!

Are you ready for the summer?
We're not - but we will be by the time the June 8 registration for the library's Summer Reading Program starts!
The great news for patrons is that this year both SRP registration and book logging will be entirely online! No more slogging back and forth to the library with handwritten notes on what your kids have read in the past week - you'll be able to update the list whenever you need to right from home!
Remember that in order to be eligible to partake in the activities and events offered during the library's SRP, you must first register for the SRP itself, which is the umbrella program for all the other offerings that take place between that six-week period of June 29 and Aug. 6.
Visit our website June 8 to register!
New museum pass available at front desk
Patrons can now add a visit to the Storm King Art Center to their weekend to-do lists - thanks to the library's new passes, the trip will be free!
Storm King is the latest addition to the library's collection of museum passes, which also include the Mid-Hudson Children's Museum and Museum Village.
Two adults and their children will be admitted to Storm King for free with the library's complimentary passes, which may be checked out on loan for three days.
For more information or to reserve a pass, call the library at 895-3707.
Stop by and see our Memorial Day display
The library will be closed for Memorial Day, but our photos of local servicemen and women are on display now for those who are interested!
The displays will be up in the fiction and nonfiction rooms through the holiday.
And for those who would like to do something special for either active duty or veteran service members, Operation Gratitude is once again underway.
Patrons are invited to drop letters of appreciation off at the library between now and Memorial Day. We'll box them up and ship them off to Operation Gratitude, an organization that will then send them out to new recruits, wounded warriors, caregivers, and other members of the military community around the world in an effort to lift their spirits and let them know how much we value their service.
Wallkill's Memorial Day Parade lineup will take place at 10 a.m. at the John G. Borden Middle School. A ceremony will follow on the library lawn.
Win a B&N gift card with new contest
You can show your love for the area and win a gift card to Barnes and Noble in the bargain with the library's latest Instagram contest!
Post a photo that shows what you love about Wallkill, use the hashtag #lovewallkill, and tag us @wallkill_library and you'll be entered into the June 30 drawing!
Good luck!
Techie types sought for library workshop
The Wallkill Public Library is looking for a couple of skilled, creative people with some extra time who like to work with their hands, figure stuff out, take things apart and put them back together - and most of all - to work with others (kids and adults)  who like to do the same.
This would be a free-form workshop of sorts - a few hours a week - learn, ponder, and question together. Picture the apprentice of days gone by, who learned how to fix or create things by learning from another experienced person.
If any part of this interests you, please call me at 895-3707 so we can discuss further.  This will be a rewarding, creative and impactful experience if you are game to take it on with me.  Thank you!!
