Why libraries still matter

Libraries in the Internet Age (Free Version)
Has the Internet rendered libraries obsolete? On the contrary. Librarians have always done more than check books in and out, but now their skills are critical, as illustrated by this video created by Common Craft. Happy National Library Week!

Children's museum pass available soon!
Poughkeepsie's Mid-Hudson Children's Museum offers interactive exhibits designed to ignite the curiosity of young children. It's a great way to spend a day off, and now you and your family can visit the museum for free!
The Friends of the Wallkill Public Library have purchased a membership card that entitles two adults and their children (under the age of 18) free admission to the museum! Starting next week, Wallkill Public Library members can borrow the card (as they would a book) for seven-day loan periods.
Exhibits at the museum revolve around science, nature, music, literacy, and more. Kids don't just walk through the building reading placards, they play, climb, crawl, and - most importantly - learn!
Borrowers of the library's pass must be in good standing and agree to the terms of use before checking the card out.
Ode to no fines: pay your bill with a poem
April is National Poetry Month, and you can celebrate by getting rid of your library fines!
From April 27 to May 2, if you have a fine of under $5, you can compose a three-line poem about the library and we'll waive your fees!
All you need to do is drop your creation off at the circulation desk - all works will be posted on the library's special poetry board. Please note that poems may not be used to waive fines of $5 or more, or fees for damaged or lost items.
Write on!
Book by local author on shelves now
When a Catskill house-hunting weekend turns up two dead bodies, Serena and Jeffrey Gale find themselves at the center of a dark conspiracy that follows them back to their Brooklyn neighborhood.
That's the hook of local author Bill Braine's Bone Hollow, available now at the library.
Braine is a Hudson Valley writer whose work has appeared in Runner's World magazine and in the critically acclaimed podcast Getting on with James Urbaniak.
If you're in the mood for a mystery with regional appeal, you can check Bone Hollow out today!
Plein Air classes offered in August
The Wallkill River School of Art will be offering Plein Air workshops to benefit the Vision of Wallkill community improvement group throughout the month of August.
Shawn Dell Joyce, Michael Piotrowski, and other artists will offer demonstrations and then provide one-on-one help as participants try their own hands at outdoor painting. Artwork made during the month will be exhibited and sold at silent auction to benefit VOW.
The workshops will take place Aug. 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30.
