Program's popularity spawns second session
Evan and Lori explain what Masters of Code is all about to their first class.
The response to Masters of Code, the computer programming workshop offered by the library, has been so overwhelming that a second session has been lined up to accommodate as many registrants as possible.
Heading up the program are library technician Lori Mullooly and Evan Panagiotopoulos, a computer science teacher whose past experience includes work at IBM and as a college instructor.
Currently the owner of Online School Records, a company that provides software solutions to educational institutions, Evan has taught both introductory and advanced placement computer science to students in grades K-12. While at Valley Central, he revamped the high school's computer curriculum and also offered workshops to district teachers, assisting them in integrating existing technology into their classes.
Evan read about the Hour of Code Lori facilitated a few weeks ago, and was eager to collaborate with the library to extend the program.
"The newly designed Masters of Code program is a great way for youngsters to be introduced to coding and computer science," he said. "I am looking forward to working with the library staff to help make Masters of Code a huge success."
Though both sessions of Masters of Code are currently full, those who would like to be placed on a waiting list can register online or call the library at 895-3707.

Laptop users will still be able to access the Internet during next week's upgrade.
Personal trainer to offer fitness classes
Juliet Gould
Don't let the subzero temperatures and apocalyptic amounts of snow fool you - warmer weather will be here before you know it, and we'll be forced to shed the comfy camo of sweaters, coats, and scarves.
But help is on the way! Personal trainer Juliet Gould will be offering two fitness classes on Mondays, starting March 2.
Light and Lively will take place from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., while Zumba Gold will be offered from 11 a.m. to noon. Classes will run from March 2-April 6 at a cost of $10 per class, or $50 for six.

Friends of the Library hold open house
Whether you have an hour a month or a couple of times a year to spare, the Friends of the Wallkill Public Library could use your help!
Each year the Friends dedicate themselves to raising funds that help the library offer a variety of quality programs and services to the community. They're always looking for like-minded volunteers, be it to join them in their planning, help them with events, or simply supply some baked goods for a program.
If you're interested in learning more about the Friends and what they do, or if you have suggestions about future events they might be able to plan, you can stop by their Meet and Greet on Saturday, Feb. 28. They'll be in the community room of Town Hall from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., offering coffee, tea, and refreshments.

Tax form availability very limited
Citing cuts made by Congress, the IRS has sent out an email informing places like the library who participate in their Tax Form Outlet Program (TFOP) that this year's supply will be limited.
The library will eventually receive forms 1040, 1040A, and 1040EZ for distribution, but instruction booklets and special forms such as Schedule A for itemizing deductions will no longer be available.
Patrons are welcome to use the public access computers to print out the forms they need. The lengthy instruction booklets can be viewed online. Taxpayers can also order their own forms by calling 1-800-829-3676 or - for state forms - 518-457-5431.
