Hot new magazines
now at your fingertips
Tablet and eReader owners can now add magazines to their cache of free downloads from Overdrive!
The library's distributor of digital material now offers current issues of 45 popular magazines, which can be downloaded for seven-day loan periods. Yoga Journal, Vanity Fair, Star, and Field and Stream are just a few of the titles available. And since the periodicals can be downloaded by up to 200 simultaneous borrowers, users are less likely to be put on a waiting list for their items, which happens sometimes with newly released books.
If you don't own a Nook device, you do need to download a Nook app that requires a one-time Barnes and Noble registration. You can access the periodicals by visiting Overdrive's homepage and clicking on the New Periodicals tab at the top left of the screen. For information on how to download your first issue, click here. Enjoy!

Bestselling writer to speak at teen club
Bestselling novelist Jennifer Probst will be the guest speaker at next week's Teen Writing Club.

The popular author of such novels as The Marriage Bargain and Dante's Fire will meet with the group to discuss the writing process and answer any questions they may have. The meeting will take place at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

And since Tuesday also happens to be Poetry Break Day, anyone who would like to bring in a poem to post on the Poetry Wall downstairs is welcome! It can be one you've written yourself or something by a famous poet - the choice is yours! Children of every age can share their love of poetry and get inspired by checking out some of the new books that have recently arrived at the library, including Winter Poems, by Barbara Rogasky and Ode to a Commode, by Brian P. Cleary.

Vote on school capital project coming up
The third stage of Wallkill Central School District's capital project will be voted on Feb. 3.
The phase is part of a long-range capital improvement plan that has thus far addressed health and safety needs and energy performance issues through past projects.
The current project will be geared toward enhancing district facilities, with plans to upgrade the middle and high school auditoriums as well as the district's athletic venues. A high-tech security camera system will also be installed at all schools, and a safety film will be placed over the first-floor windows and exterior doors of all buildings.
The total cost of the project is $8,209,340, which would be replacing retiring debt and therefore would have no impact on the local share.
Forums are being held to keep the public informed about the full scope of the project and answer questions voters may have regarding the proposal. A 7 p.m. forum will be offered next at the Wallkill Senior High School on Monday. Other forums will be offered at 7 p.m. Jan. 20 at Ostrander Elementary and at 7 p.m. Jan. 27 at the high school, again.
Feb. 3's vote will take place from noon to 9 p.m., when polls will be open at Leptondale Elementary, Plattekill Elementary, and Wallkill Senior High School.
