Vision of Wallkill sets sights on this weekend
The Vision of Wallkill started in January with a group of local residents, led by library director Mary Lou Carolan, eager to see positive change within the hamlet. An outgrowth of the Project for Public Spaces' placemaking concept, the group continued to meet as the months wore on to discuss ways in which to go about creating a more vibrant area in which to live, work, and visit.
The Weekend of Wallkill, which kicks off tomorrow, is the culmination of months of planning and preparation. With events that include an art show, the Harvest Faire, a free outdoor movie night, live music, Plein Air Painting instruction by the Wallkill River School, and much more, VOW is well on its way to fulfilling its placemaking mission of transforming the hamlet into a friendlier, more vital and attractive gathering place.
Your support will help make the weekend a success! Take a look at the WOW brochure to find a full list of the many events and programs occurring throughout the next three days.
Library's budget vote takes place Tuesday
The polls will be open Tuesday, Sept. 30, at the Wallkill Public Library, from noon to 8 p.m.
Qualified voters (those living within the Town of Shawangunk as well as the Wallkill Central School District) will use paper ballots to elect seven library trustees to terms of one to five years and to vote on the 2015 budget.
The proposed budget has an increase of 3 percent or $9,765, for a total of $335,273.
Short bios of the trustee candidates will be available at the ballot box during Tuesday's election.
Thanks as always for your support!
Bank names VOW Organization of Month
The Wallkill Valley Federal Savings and Loan has named the Vision of Walkill its Organization of the Month!
The bank will celebrate both VOW and the upcoming Weekend of Wallkill events by serving hot dogs, nachos, chili, and other refreshments from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at their 23 Wallkill Ave. location tomorrow.
Wallkill Valley Federal Savings and Loan has already been an awesome supporter of VOW's placemaking efforts, providing seed money for the launch of a series of successful outdoor summer music concerts. The library's sincere thanks goes out to them!
Faire to feature variety of vendors, talent
Tastefully Simple, Wallkill Karate, and Pampered Chef are just three of the vendors and local businesses scheduled to set up on the library lawn during Saturday's Harvest Faire.
The 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. event will also feature a variety of performers, including cast members of the library's Books Alive! children's theater project, the Well Above Average Band, and guest speaker Richard Wood, who appeared on the 2012 season of American Pickers. The Friends of the Library will be selling mums, and the Friends Used Book Shop will have their own table set up with novels and nonfiction for shoppers to peruse, as well.
You can check out Saturday's (thus far) complete list of vendors here.
