Harvest Faire just one
of many weekend events
Wallkill Karate will be giving a demonstration at this year's Harvest Faire.
Always a popular draw at the library, the annual Harvest Faire will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, on the library lawn.
Vendors, artisans, and entertainers will be on hand all day for visitors to enjoy. As usual, the Friends' Used Book Shop will also have a display of their merchandise available for shoppers to peruse, and a wide variety of mums will be on sale, as well. Richard Wood, featured on the 2012 season of American Pickers, will also be at the library, selling his own collectibles.
This year the Harvest Faire is just one of many community events taking place throughout the hamlet over the course of the weekend. Thanks to the Vision of Wallkill community improvement group, the Weekend of Wallkill will feature an art show on Friday afternoon, a free outdoor family movie night featuring The Princess Bride Saturday night, and activities throughout the day on Sunday, including plein air painting instruction by Wallkill River School, kayak rentals and demonstrations, live music, a dog costume contest, and much more. For a complete schedule, download the WOW brochure.
The Friends of the Library, who coordinate the Harvest Faire, are looking for a donation of 20 bales of hay for the event. If you'd like to contribute, please contact Adrienne at dramapearl@aol.com or 895-8712.
Many artists capture Beauty of Wallkill
Seventeen artists will be showcasing 56 original pieces that highlight the bucolic appeal of our area during the Sept. 26 Beauty of Wallkill Art Show.

The show will feature photographs and artwork that were entered into the Vision of Wallkill's art contest. Entries had to spotlight scenes captured within the boundaries of the Town of Shawangunk.

Contest winners will get their artwork displayed in the Town Hall and/or the library for a month following the showing.

The event is a fundraiser for VOW, a community improvement group working for positive change in Wallkill.

Library hosts special program at Ostrander
Students in grades 1-3 are invited to participate in The Magic Tree House Book Club, which will be offered at Ostrander Elementary School beginning Oct. 1.
Wallkill Public Library children's coordinator Carolyn Thorenz will be facilitating the after-school program, which will meet on Wednesdays from 3-5 p.m. through Nov. 5 at the school. The interactive literacy program will use the popular Mary Pope Osbourne series to entertain while building skills. Tonight on the Titanic and Hurry Up, Houdini will be the focus of the club, which will expand on the books' themes through lessons involving survival skills, secrets of illusions, and history.
Only 15 students are being accepted into this program, and registration is on a first-come/first-served basis, so keep an eye out for the flyer and permission slip that should soon be distributed.
The program is made possible by a grant the Wallkill Public Library received from Target.
Teens: Want to get steampunk'd?
Steampunk Jewelry Making will be among the library's fall teen events.
The Teen Library Club met for the first time since the Summer Reading Program this past week, and together with children's coordinator Carolyn Thorenz planned a number of events for the fall and beyond.
Included in the upcoming activities are a Steampunk Creative Writing Session, Anime Appreciation Night, and book clubs whose picks will include the bestsellers The Fault in Our Stars and If I Stay.
If you're a teen looking for some new and creative ways to spend some of your afternoons, you can find the complete list of the events planned thus far here.
