Story Times return soon
Book Buddies and Toddler Story Time will resume soon, but with a new facilitator!
Pat Parisi, a retired teacher and preschool director, will be taking over Story Time starting with the first fall session Sept. 24.
This season, Toddler Story Time, for ages 2-3, will be offered Wednesdays at 11 a.m. Book Buddies, for 4- and 5-year-olds, will take place at 1 p.m. Wednesdays. The fall session will run through Dec. 10.
Miss Pat has worked with young children for more than 30 years. In addition to teaching second- and third-graders, she's also instructed preschoolers and served as the director of Trinity Preschool in Walden for eight years. During her time there, she started a Mommy & Me program which she still facilitates.
Miss Pat will be incorporating music, finger plays, movement, and play time into her Story Times. She plans on using puppets, flannel board stories, art, sensory and parachute play, puzzles, and blocks during her sessions.
Children's coordinator Carolyn Thorenz will still be around to visit, which will come as a relief to her many loyal fans. Though she's enjoyed her time with her Story Time groups, she's now busy with other projects, including the development of an exciting new curriculum (soon to be announced) for school-aged students.
Though registration for this season's Story Times isn't necessary, a head count would be appreciated. If you're planning on bringing your little ones to either Book Buddies or Toddler Story Time, please email Carolyn at cthorenz@rcls.org, or call her at 895-3707.

Nook, Kindle now available for loan!
If you've been on the waiting list for blockbusters like All the Light We Cannot See and The Book of Life, this may be your chance to jump the line!
The Wallkill Public Library is now lending out a Nook and Kindle preloaded with the above titles as well as three additional bestsellers.
In an effort to ensure that the eReaders remain in good condition for as many users as possible to enjoy in the future, some rules have been put in place to protect them. The details are described in the eReader Loan Agreement users must sign before checking the Nook or Kindle out, but the highlights include:
  • A 14-day lending period with no renewals
  • A fine of $10 per day for late returns
  • A deposit of $50 in cash or check, to be refunded once the eReader is returned in good working condition, without any damage

The other books found on both the Kindle and Nook include The Goldfinch, by Donna Tartt, What I Know for Sure, by Oprah Winfrey, and - upon its Sept. 23 release - Killing Patton, by Bill O'Reilly. We hope readers will enjoy these new additions to the library's collection!

Fairy tale workshop not for children
Fairy tales weren't always the stuff of childhood bedtime stories and animated films. In the beginning, they were geared toward an adult audience (as illustrated by this article on some of the original themes of the Brothers Grimm).
Fairy tale expert Patty Kane Horrigan will explore the light and dark sides of these stories during her workshop, Finding Solace and Spirituality in Fairy Tales. The multi-media study will include writing, art, crafts, and meditation.
The workshop will take place Oct. 10, 11, and 12 at The Sanctuary, located at 5 Academy St., New Paltz. Attendees are welcome to come for the full weekend (for $180) or Saturday only (for $150). Enrollment is limited to 15 people and a non-refundable deposit of $25 is required by Oct. 3 to reserve a place.
