Two special reasons to visit the library this month
September is Library Card Sign-Up Month. Free replacement cards will be given out all month, so if you've been procrastinating paying the lost-card fee, now's your time to get it waived!
That's not the only money you'll save with regular library use. Think of the cash you'll pocket by taking out free DVDs from the library instead of using Netflix, or borrowing your bestsellers  instead of laying down about $50 for two of them at the book store. The library also provides patrons with magazines, newspapers, programming, audiobooks, classes, online reference and research tools, and much more. To see just how valuable your library card is, use this calculator.
Speaking of programming, September is also National Sewing Month. All skill levels are welcome to celebrate during the library's Textile Tuesdays, which meet each week in the community room of Town Hall. Between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., bring a favorite project or learn something new as textile artisans gather to quilt, sew, knit, crochet, and do some paper crafting. Sewing machines are available for use, as well! For more information, call Carolyn at 895-3707 or email her at cthorenz@rcls.org.

Library eReaders lend users experience
Ready to try something new?
The library's Nook and Kindle eReaders will soon be available to Wallkill Public Library users.
Both eReaders will come preloaded with the hottest bestsellers - all you'll have to do is decide what you want to read first!
Both the Kindle and Nook will contain:
What I Know for Sure, by Oprah Winfrey
Book of Life, by Deborah Harkness
The Goldfinch, by Donna Tartt
All the Light We Cannot See, by Anthony Doerr
Killing Patton, by Bill O'Reilly (which is pre-ordered for its Sept. 23 release)
Keep a lookout at the circulation desk for the availability of these great additions to our collection!
Harvest Faire coming up at end of month
Vendors at last year's Harvest Faire set up shop on the library lawn.
This year's Harvest Faire is fast approaching, but it's not too late for interested vendors to participate!
The Faire will be held rain or shine from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 27. That day on the library lawn visitors can check out the event's new food vendors, antique dealers, craftspeople, and more.  Jewelry, toys, and organic products will be among the items available for purchase.
A special guest of the day will be 14-year-old Richard Wood, who was featured in the 2012 season of American Pickers. A collector himself, Richard will be bringing his own items to sell.
Those who are interested in setting up their own space at the Faire can download an application and return it to the library.
VOW adds WOW to Harvest Faire weekend
VOW's new Riverwalk winds along the scenic Wallkill.
Clear your calendars - the Harvest Faire is just one in a series of family events planned for the last weekend in September.
The community improvement group Vision of Wallkill is pulling together a lineup that includes an art show, free outdoor movie, kayak rental and demonstration, and more beginning Friday, Sept. 26, and continuing through Sunday, Sept. 28.
Also included in the plans is the ribbon cutting of the newly plotted Riverwalk! Come out and see the new trail that borders one of our hamlet's most picturesque attractions!
Stay tuned for a full schedule of events.

Minnewaska hosts volunteer trail day
Hikers, bikers, climbers, and nature lovers know that there's no better place to enjoy the outdoors than Minnewaska State Park.
From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, you can help play a role in its upkeep. That day, New York-New Jersey Trail Conference members and Park Preserve staff will be building a stone turnpike on the Mossy Glen Footpath and clearing brush along the Jenny Lane Footpath, and they could use some assistance. If you'd like to volunteer, you can register by calling the Park Preserve Office at 255-0752. Pre-registration is required.
The event will be an opportunity to not only meet new friends, but learn about trail maintenance and improvement from experienced trail keepers. Visit the state park website for more information.
