Read it now, watch it later
Some awesome book-to-film adaptations are coming to the big screen this fall, and you (and your kids) can double your pleasure by reading the novels before you hit the movie theater.
This is Where I Leave You is a dark but very funny comedy by Jonathan Tropper about what happens when a man reunites with his family for a week to sit shiva for his father. It will come out Sept. 19.
Also due out Sept. 19 is The Maze Runner. Based on the popular action novel for ages 12 and up, it's been described as a cross between Lord of the Flies and The Hunger Games.
One of the fall's most anticipated movies was one of last summer's hottest reads. Gone Girl, by Gillian Flynn, grabbed readers by the throat from the very first page and didn't let go til the end. Ben Affleck's role as the possible suspect/husband bodes well for the film version, which is due out Oct. 3.
Left Behind, based on the end-times novel by Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins, will star Nicholas Cage and hit the theaters Oct. 3.
For the littler ones, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day  is due out Oct. 10 and stars Steve Carell.
Halloween offers up some chills with the release of Before I Go to Sleep, about an amnesiac who has good reason to suspect her husband's up to no good, and Horns, the Joe Hill chiller about a man whose sudden dark talent comes accompanied by a couple of devilish physical anomalies.

Your feedback on the SRP is appreciated!
Though this year's Summer Reading Program was a great success, we're looking to make next year's even better. But to do so we need your help.
We're in the process of determining which of our programs are the most popular, and which should be cut. You can help make our decision easier by filling out the SRP Survey and letting us know your thoughts. You can email your responses to Carolyn at cthorenz@rcls.org.

Nook, Kindle available soon at library!
Curious about eReaders but not sure you want to invest in one?
The library may be able to help you make a decision. Starting soon, we'll be lending out a Nook and Kindle that will come preloaded with your favorite bestsellers.
Users will be able to check out one of these devices as they would a book. Then they'll be free to choose what they'd like to read next from the eReaders' libraries.
It will be a great way for novices to get familiar with these devices, and also another means of accessing super books without necessarily going on a huge waiting list.
Keep a lookout for these offerings at the circulation desk!

Books Alive! director receives honor
Books Alive! directors Adrienne and Jim Perine
Adrienne Gelfand-Perine, who with her husband Jim heads up the library's children's theatre group, Books Alive!, was nominated for the 2014 Daniel W. Casey Library Advocacy Award.
Though the Aurora Free Library Building Preservation Committee wound up winning the award, Adrienne's contributions were recognized with a special certificate.
Adrienne and Jim have devoted countless hours to the annual Books Alive! program for the past six years that they've led it, all at no cost to the library. The children who have participated in the program have transformed from being self-conscious and shy to having the rare ability to take the stage in front of huge groups of people and shine.
Congratulations to Adrienne! She's a true library advocate.
