Volunteers needed for summer programs
SRP participants line up to get their awards last year.
Whether you're available one day or throughout the summer, the Wallkill Public Library could use your help!
Volunteers are needed to assist with this year's Summer Reading Program. Help is needed with special events, games, staffing tables, programs, book logs, distributing prizes, and more! You can use your time toward community service hours, as well!
Those interested can call the library at 895-3707, or email Mary Lou at [email protected].
Harvest Faire applications available now
Last year's Harvest Faire drew a smiling crowd.
If you're a professional looking for a great environment in which to gain some exposure and/or sell your product, or a homeowner in search of the perfect garage sale site, the Harvest Faire may be the perfect solution!
This year's event will take place rain or shine Sept. 27, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the library lawn. If you're interested in reserving a space, you can fill out an application now. Vendors' spots are available for $35 on a first-come/first-served basis. Checks should be made payable to the Friends of the Wallkill Public Library. Applications are due by Sept. 25.
Questions? Contact Donna at 742-8461 or [email protected].
Fabric lovers should sign up for this trip!
If you love to sew, quilt, or shop for loved ones who do, the library's I Love Fabric bus trip is for you!
A charter will leave the library at 8 a.m. July 19 and travel first to The Patchwork Co. in Windham, and then on to Log Cabin Fabrics in Selkirk.
The cost of the trip is $34 round trip, which includes the tip for the driver. A break will be taken in Windham for lunch, where shoppers can dine out at one of the area restaurants.
For more information or to reserve a seat, contact Carolyn Thorenz at 895-3707, or [email protected].

Swing lessons offered during July
Sick of date nights that revolve around movies and dinner?
Spice things up this summer with some dancing!
The Wallkill Public Library will be offering Beginning Swing Lessons for adults on Tuesdays from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Professional instructors will lead students through the four-week class in the community room of Town Hall. Sessions will be held July 8, 15, 22, and 29.
During the lessons, a simultaneous program will be offered for ages 2-10 next door at the library, so those who need childcare can drop their kids off for the hour and enjoy some couples-only time!
Cost of the program is $75 per person. Register online at Got2Lindy.com, but be sure to email Mary Lou ([email protected]) if you will be taking advantage of the children's programming during the lessons - the library needs a definite head count, so pre-registration is a must. No drop-ins will be allowed.
Library board will need vacancies filled
This year's Sept. 30 library vote will potentially see seven of the 11 trustee positions up for election.
That's good news for community members looking to make a difference in the hamlet by joining forces with a smart, dynamic group of individuals who are interested in maintaining the library's role as a community center and gathering place.
Candidates must reside within the Wallkill School District and hand in a petition with the signatures of 50 eligible voters (those who are registered and live in both the town of Shawangunk and the Wallkill School District) by 5 p.m. Sept. 18.
Petition forms will be available at the circulation desk of the library beginning July 1. Keep in mind that the library's summer events are a great opportunity to fill the petitions quickly.
Good luck to all!
Concert to take place on library lawn
Music will be in the air this summer at the Wallkill Public Library!
The SUNY Ulster Summer Wind Ensemble and Summer Jazz Ensemble will perform a free public concert Wednesday, July 23, at 6:45 p.m.
The following Tuesday (July 29), the Wallkill Senior High School Band will perform at 6:30 p.m.
In addition, this year's Summer Reading Program will feature musical story times, and the Vision of Wallkill will be organizing two additional concerts! Stay tuned for more details.
Register for LEGO Camp online today!
The popular LEGO Engineering Summer Camp will be back this season, offering week-long workshops in July!
Grades K-2 can now register for Pre-Engineering using LEGO, which will be offered from 9 a.m. to noon July 14-July 18.
Engineering FUNdamentals with LEGO will take place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. that week, geared toward grades 3-5.
As usual, expert instructors from Play-Well TEKnologies will be on hand to teach and guide young builders as they learn the principles of engineering and physics through their projects.
Registration is online at Play-Well's site. For more information, call the library at 895-3707.
