SRP sign-up coming soon
This year's Summer Reading Program will be jam-packed with offerings for every age and interest.
Creative types will be able to connect with their inner artists with workshops and programs like Acting with Ana, photography lessons, sewing as well as knitting and crochet classes, and (of course) art workshops.
The academically inclined can get their educational fix through the SRP's various camps, which will feature science, architecture, and LEGO engineering!
Other offerings will include yoga, book clubs, chess clubs, and story times (ranging from Mommy and Me to Getting Ready for Kindergarten and everything in between!).
Early registration will be offered June 16 through the 20th. Space for these programs is limited, and registration is a must for everything (including story times), so the earlier you sign up, the more you'll have to choose from!
Library representatives will be at Ostrander Elementary June 3 for a special summer preview that will include a performance by Dr. Gravity (aka David  Engel of Pirate School fame). Calendars and other information will be available for students then, as they will at Leptondale Elementary during the library's June 6 visit.
The Summer Reading Program kickoff will be July 1, when the Sciencetellers will perform at 6:30 p.m. We hope to see you there!

The Vision of Wallkill placemaking group will be meeting at Rob's Pizza at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
VOW members hope to draw some local business owners to the evening meeting, where they'll discuss the group's proposed River Walk behind Popp's Pavilion. Summer events and funding opportunities will also be on the evening's agenda.
VOW's goal is to make the hamlet a more attractive and inviting place in which to live, work, and visit. For more information, contact Mary Lou Carolan at 895-3707 or mlcarolan@rcls.org.
Library hosts Memorial Day ceremony
The annual Memorial Day ceremony will take place at noon Monday on the library lawn, directly after the 11 a.m. parade that starts at the John G. Borden Middle School.
The library will be open for a portion of the day in order to allow visitors to peruse the indoor displays of local veterans.
Monday will also mark the first day of the library's annual Operation Gratitude participation. From May 26 through May 31, library patrons and visitors are invited to write letters or draw pictures for active service members or wounded warriors, thanking them for their sacrifice. The library will collect all the submissions and ship them to Operation Gratitude, which will then distribute them as care packages to troops throughout the world.
First Student bus co. makes trip possible
Much thanks to Mary at First Student bus company for transporting Ostrander's first-graders to and from the library during a dark and stormy Thursday. If it wasn't for you, the field trip would have had to be postponed yet again!
