Your help is still needed
So far more than 2,300 people have taken action and written to Governor Andrew Cuomo to oppose his proposed $4 million cut to library aid.
We thank all who have thus far shown their support and taken lengths to keep services like Wallkill's inter-library loans free and available to the public. Unfortunately, more help is needed! The governor's proposed budget translates into a 4.7 percent cut in library aid, which would devastate systems like Wallkill's RCLS.
The good news is that NYLA has drafted a "second-round letter" that targets our personal representatives in the Senate, Assembly, and other elected officials. Even those who have already contacted their lawmakers can make their voices heard again with just a couple of clicks of the mouse.
Just click here to send your message of support for library funding.
And for those who are willing and able, NYLA's Advocacy Day is Wednesday, Feb. 26. Join fellow library supporters from across the state as they gather in Albany to speak up for library funding. Click here to register.

Attendees are invited to bring canned food for the local food pantry, as well.

Ages 1-101 are invited to take part. Registration suggested.

Library to close for refurbishing
The Wallkill Public Library will be closed Feb. 27 and 28 while the fiction and reference rooms are reorganized.
The staff will be working those days to make both computer use and book-browsing a better experience for patrons. New furniture has been ordered that will hopefully offer more privacy and comfort to those who use the library's public access computers.
Hopefully the refurbishing will be a successful effort to make the most out of the library's limited space. We apologize for any inconvenience our two-day closing may cause.

Placemaking books hit library shelves
Those Vision of Wallkill members and others looking to make the community a more welcoming, attractive place to live and visit will want to check out some of the library's latest additions.
How to Turn a Place Around by the Project for Public Places is a primer for everyone from mayors to community members on evaluating and transforming public spaces into thriving centers of community activity.
The Great Good Place by Ray Oldenburg illustrates how gathering places for those who want to socialize and hang out make up the heart of the community.
Celebrating the Third Place, also by Oldenburg, is a follow-up,  which provides 15 first-hand accounts by proprietors of The Great Good Place(s) the author discussed in his first book on the subject.
The next VOW workshop will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 22.
Tax forms are trickling in.....
Those anxious to get their taxes out of the way can find many federal forms in the clear plastic filing box in the main fiction room. There is also a clipboard full of reproducible forms at the circ desk, which staff will be happy to help you copy.
Though we're still waiting for many of the forms we ordered, in the meantime we'll gladly print out the ones you need - at no cost - from the computer. If you need an instruction booklet printed out, as well, it will cost $5, as many of them are close to 100 pages long.
