- The Knit and Crochet Club meets at 6:30 p.m. every Thursday.
- The Quilters' Circle will meet Wednesday, Aug. 28, at 6:30 p.m.
- Lego Building will be offered Friday, Aug. 30, at 4 p.m.
Please note that the library will be closed Monday, Sept. 2, for Labor Day. Computer Basics for Adults will begin Sept. 11. If you're interested in participating, stop by the circulation desk or call the library at 895-3707.

Library's summer intern will be missed
Ana Wakeman, whose hard work and long hours this summer have led to successful programs like Act It Out Puppet and Theater Workshop, will spend her last day at the library tomorrow before heading back to school. Here's what she had to say about the experience:I knew going into this summer that my job at the library would be a very busy one, and that I would be exhausted. What I didn't know was just how much I would love every second of it. I went home with a smile on my face every time I left the library, despite what my mood might have been when I came in. These kids that I had the privilege to work with this summer were so full of curiosity and joy, and it became impossible for me to not smile as I worked with them. Their smiles and happiness were contagious. I almost came to tears at the Top Reader Reception as I saw kids who I have gotten to know over the summer, and have grown to care about, rewarded in front of their families and friends for their hard work. Before this summer, I was never aware of just how much the library had to offer (for free, might I add!) for kids and adults. There are programs all year, and especially all summer long, that engage everybody in learning in a fun way! Who knew?! If you haven't already, take advantage of what the library has to offer - from Story Times to Lego building to acting to archeology camp to art projects, there is something for everybody! Thank you all for making this summer at the Wallkill Public Library a rewarding and wonderful experience for me! Ana Wakeman Children's Room Summer Assistant |

Quilters celebrate special anniversary
 | Quilters, knitters, and other handcrafters strike a pose during last year's Lion Brand trip.
|
This past week marked a festive Textile Tuesday as quilters and other crafters got together for a special anniversary luncheon.
The Quilters' Circle has been together for a year and a half, now, and to celebrate the hallmark, those in attendance Tuesday enjoyed sandwiches from the Wooden Spoon and homemade baked goods they brought in themselves. One of the top topics of conversation during the lunch was their next trip to the Lion Brand Yarn Studio and Outlet Store and The City Quilter, which is tentatively scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 29. Also coming up at the library is I Love Yarn Day, which will take place in the Town Hall community room Saturday, Oct. 12. Bring your favorite project and a potluck contribution and spend the day getting creative with friends. The Wallkill Public Library's Quilters' Circle meets monthly, while Textile Tuesdays are offered each week in the community room of Town Hall between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.
You can see the fruits of the Quilters' Circle's labor hanging in the foyer of the library - that beautiful quilt is now being raffled off in a Sept. 21 drawing (get your tickets at the circ desk!).
For more information, call the library at 895-3707.

Volunteers take well-deserved day off
 | Volunteers Megan Podeszedlik, Victoria Bongiovanni, and Jessica Pullar kick back during Wednesday's party.
|
This summer's teen volunteers celebrated a successful Summer Reading Program Wednesday by getting together downstairs in the children's room for a day of relaxation and fun.
Children's coordinator Carolyn Thorenz brought in breakfast for the group, who built a fort and passed the time watching movies and listening to music.
With hundreds of kids participating in this year's Summer Reading Program, the volunteers were really put through their paces, but they met every challenge with a smile and an eagerness to help. Thank you to all!

Trustee vote coming up in September
Two five-year trustee terms are up for grabs at the Wallkill Public Library next month. Members of the Board of Trustees oversee library operations, meeting once monthly and working on special committees like Finance and Building and Grounds. If you're interested in running for a trustee spot, you have to get a petition signed by 50 qualified voters (residents of the Town of Shawangunk who live in the Wallkill Central School District) by Sept.4. The election will take place on Sept. 17. For questions or to pick up a petition, call the library at 895-3707 or stop by the circulation desk.
