Wallkill Public Library
Join record-breaking SRP

It's only the third full week of the Summer Reading Program, and already the library is breaking records!
Thus far, close to 350 people have signed up for our program! Anyone who's dared to venture down to the children's room during Story Time, the Art Journal Workshop, or one of the many other programs and events being offered throughout each day knows it's tough going threading through the crowds to get to the bookshelves.
And for those who have yet to register, it's not too late! Come in, sign up, and get free passes to this year's Renaissance Faire (see below). Start logging your books and earn tickets for exciting raffles, as well as Paw Prints that will come in handy for those going back to Ostrander in the fall!
Adults are still able to get in on the fun, as well.
The library is hosting a Goodreads mystery genre book club and contest using award winners from the Agatha Awards, the Edgar Awards, and the  Macavity Awards.

Adult SRP prizes include journals, canvas bags, and mugs.
To participate, all readers need to do is post the title of the book they read, which of three awards it won, and a review and/or recommendation to the Wallkill Public Library group on Goodreads.
Each post enters readers in a raffle for fabulous prizes: stylish canvas book bags, mugs, journals, t-shirts, gift certificates and more!
One review from a mystery award-winning book gets you one raffle ticket.
And don't forget to ask about the library's year-round adult programs if you should stop by for that raffle ticket - our offerings include the very popular Quilters' Circle, the Knit and Crochet Club, and the Nonfiction and Fiction Book Clubs.

Keeping up with your book logs pays

Don't wait until the end of the Summer Reading Program to log the books you've read - it pays to keep your reading folder updated!
Each time Summer Reading Program participants log in their books, they get one of the small prizes offered this year for their efforts. They also get Paw Prints and raffle tickets for every five books under 100 pages or one book over 100 pages they read.
If you're away and unable to log your books for a few days - no worries! Give us a call or email us and we'll take care of it for you.

The raffle drawing will take place Aug. 8, the day of the finale of this year's Summer Reading Program. For more information (or if you want to call in the books you've read), call us at 895-3707.

You can still get acoustic guitar lessons!
Beginner and Advanced Acoustic Guitar Lessons just began last week, so that means - if you're interested - you still have time to join in next Thursday and get a full four weeks of classes.
Instructor Dominick Colandrea has studied at the New York School of Music and is currently a liberal arts student with an emphasis on music. He's performed with the band RIP at numerous clubs around the region, including The Chance, Collins Ale House, and Sounds Asylum.
Students will be taught using the Hal Leonard Guitar Method: Book One. Classes take place at 5 p.m. (for beginners) and 6:30 p.m. (for advanced) Thursdays. For more information or to register, call the library at 895-3707.

Act It Out's next performance coming soon

Act It Out Theater's puppet show was a hit among the Story Timers this past Tuesday, and the good news is if you missed out on participating in that, there's still time to take part in a new production!
This time around, the Act It Out crew will be flexing their acting muscles with a SkippyJon Jones play, scheduled to be performed Aug. 6 for Story Time participants.
There are still two spots left for the program. Ages 8-12 are invited to come in and work with theater major Ana Wakeman to put on another great show!
If you're interested in joining the group, don't wait too long! Rehearsals are already underway. Call the library at 895-3707 for more information.

Local author donates material to library
Thanks go out to resident uber-talented author Jennifer Probst, for donations of her wildly popular audiobooks, The Marriage Bargain and All the Way.
The Marriage Bargain was ranked #6 on Amazon's Best Books of the Year for 2012. It's the first in Jennifer's Marriage to a Billionaire series, the fourth installment of which (The Marriage Merger) is due for release July 30 and available for pre-order now. All the Way is another hot romance from the popular author.
Thanks to Jen for her gifts! They're sure to be a must-have for the library's many romance fans.
Renaissance passes offered with SRP
Those who have registered for Wallkill Public Library's Summer Reading Program are eligible to receive complimentary passes to this year's Renaissance Faire, which takes place Aug. 3 through Sept. 22.
Passes, which give children ages 5-17 free entry to the Faire, are available to all registrants of the SRP and can be picked up at the library's circulation desk. Those devoted parents, grandparents, and others who take time out of their schedules to shuttle their SRP participants to and from the library can get flyers to the Faire, inside of which they'll find valuable discount coupons.
So if you've yet to register for this year's Summer Reading Program, here's another reason to do so!

Vendor apps available for Harvest Faire
Vendor applications are now being accepted for this year's Harvest Faire, which will take place Sept. 21 on the library lawn.
Another day of food, fun, and great sales is in the works. If you've been meaning to have your own garage sale, this is a great venue in which to do it, filled with crowds perusing the wares of eateries, craftspeople, and other attractions.
The Faire is also a great opportunity for local businesses to glean some great advertising by setting up a table and showing off their own offerings.
You can get your applications at the circulation desk of the library. Call first to make sure we have some available - 895-3707.

Wooden Spoon set for grand opening
The reviews are in, and those who have dropped by The Wooden Spoon (near the Friends' Used Book Shop) are raving about the culinary marvels available at the hamlet's newest eatery!
Pastries aren't the only treats on hand at the shop - their scrumptious gourmet sandwiches are put together with as many local seasonal ingredients as possible. Their ciabatta bread is baked fresh each morning, and their coffee is from Coffee Labs Roasters in Tarrytown, a gourmet micro-roaster that's won several awards in the past decade.
For those who haven't yet dropped by, next weekend is the perfect chance to do so - the shop will be having its grand opening Saturday, July 27, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The event will feature a 10 a.m. children's art workshop with artist Rhona Maynard, Musical Munchkins at 11 a.m., the photography of Kraig with a K, and calligraphy by author James Bennett, who wrote Calligraphy for Dummies.
A cupcake decorating workshop for kids will be offered in the afternoon. Perfect Pets Rescue will also be set up throughout the day with animals that need adoption and fostering.
So if you're in the mood for great food, great causes, and a great time, stop by The Wooden Spoon!

Part-time sub needed for circulation desk
The Wallkill Public Library is looking for someone who can fill in on an as-needed basis at our front desk.

The qualified applicant will be available to help out (on relatively short notice, sometimes) when needed during regular library hours (10-6 Monday and Friday, 10-8 Tuesday through Thursday, and 10-2 on Saturday).
Those interested should contact director Mary Lou Carolan at 895-3707.

The campus, located at 6 Albany Post Road, Newburgh, will open one hour before the start of the concert. Bring chairs or blankets and enjoy a picnic!
