Art clubs foster creativity

Participants in one of Miss Christine's art programs get creative.

Do you have a budding artist in your home? Help foster that creativity through our FREE quality art programs taught by Miss Christine!

Ages 5 and under are invited to attend Monday's Mini Masterpieces at 10:30 a.m. (though when school's out, all ages are welcome!). Older children 5 and up can attend Wednesday's 4 p.m. Masterpiece Art Club. Each group will learn about a famous artist or illustrator, their life and inspiration, and then create a project using that artist's specific techniques.

Your child will receive hands-on instruction in our children's room, which provides a safe, fun, educational environment close to home. Call the library at 895-3707 and ask for Miss Christine to register your child or ask questions.

Bridget Jones returns...on film and in print
Thirteen years after the last Bridget Jones installment, The Edge of Reason, Helen Fielding is currently hard at work on another novel featuring the beloved Brit.
Bridget Jones's Diary came out in 1996 and is credited with kicking off the chick lit phenomena. Fielding's new book is due out next fall.
In the meantime, fans can look forward to Bridget Jones's Baby, due to be released in theaters early next year. Unlike the other two movies, this one is not based on a book, though Fielding helped write it and it still stars Renee Zellweger, Colin Firth, and Hugh Grant. Timeline-wise, the movie's plot takes place sometime between the second and yet-to-be-released third novels. Sounds like something both singletons and smug marrieds will enjoy!
Will wimpy kid Greg be lucky in love?
Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Third Wheel, by Jeff Kinney

Love is in the air - but what does that mean for Greg Heffley?
A Valentine's Day dance at Greg's middle school has turned his world upside down. As Greg scrambles to find a date, he's worried he'll be left out in the cold on the big night. His best friend, Rowley, doesn't have any prospects either, but that's a small consolation.
An unexpected twist gives Greg a partner for the dance and leaves Rowley the odd man out. But a lot can happen in one night, and in the end, you never know who's going to be lucky in love.

Shop locally and get great discounts!
This Saturday, November 24th, is Small Business Saturday - the day we are all encouraged to support our local shops by giving them our business.  We have a wonderfully supportive family of businesses in the hamlet of Wallkill.  For the third year, we are collaborating with them to offer holiday discounts to our library patrons when they show their card at the participating business.
The discounts have been chosen by the store or restaurant and will be available to all of you from today, November 23rd, through December 31st.  This list grows daily so be sure to check back as new names are added to it.  If you have a business, or know of one, that can be added to this list, please let me know. There is no cost to participate. If you do stop by any of these shops, please thank them for supporting your public library!
