Breakfast at Nordstrom Kicks Off
     Festival of Trees
This Holiday Children's Fashion Show
kicked off the 3rd annual Festival of Trees on Nov 16.  The fashion show was held in Nordstrom's Children's department and Guild members, along with their children and grandchildren, modeled fashions for women and children.

WBTV's Kelly Franson, a new Guild member, emceed the runway show.  The show kicked off the display of decorated trees at SouthPark, and also was a fundraiser on its own ... 
 
   
 
Fall Meeting Smashing Success 
Over 50 seasoned and new members
enjoyed an exciting new venue for the fall meeting on Oct 9 - the Mahlon Adams Pavilion in Freedom Park.  Musicians from the CSYO played during the social hour as everyone enjoyed delicious food and wine provided by a host of Guild members.

Sallie Moody, president, welcomed everyone and introduced the executive committee.  She then introduced Emith Smith, chair of the CSO board of directors who gave an update on the Charlotte Symphony and the Say Yes ....

Looking for a way to help your friends 
experience the excitement of the Charlotte Symphony and share in the future of symphonic music in our community?  Then say "YES" to a Symphony Yes gathering.

Symphony Yes is a series of intimate events hosted by friends of the Charlotte Symphony. Events have ranged from cocktail parties to English tea, and have been very successful in garnering financial support for the CSO.

Guild Plays Key Role in 9th
     Annual SOVA Roundtable 
The Southeastern Orchestra Volunteer Association  (SOVA) was founded in 2001
 as a unique networking and support organization for symphony and orchestra volunteer groups and their members. The purpose is to affect the exchange of ideas and resources among symphony orchestra volunteer organizations throughout the southeastern US.

A key event on the SOVA calendar is the annual Roundtable conference hosted by various member organizations. This year, the 9th annual Roundtable took place in Myrtle Beach SC, hosted by the Long Bay Symphony Guild .....

Fall 101 Tells All to New Members
"Everything you ever wanted to know about the Guild" was the theme of the Fall Guild 101, held at the home of Mary Staton, president-elect, on Oct 27.  Dina Kim, co-chair of New Members/Mentors organized the event.

Besides being a fun social gathering, the event was an education session for new members.  Following a welcome by Sallie Moody, president, the new members divided into groups, and the vice presidents or their representatives rotated ....
 
 
What is the Musical Petting Zoo?
The Guild introduces some 2,000 children
each year to the Musical Petting Zoo, a collection of instruments that acquaint children with the four major sections of an orchestra - brass, strings, percussion, and woodwinds.  It's hands-on fun for both the children and the teachers.  You don't need experience with an instrument to work the zoo, but it always helps.

You don't see a recorder quartet every day!

If you can blow a razz berry on your hand, you can teach a child to blow a note ...
