Letter from Our President
Just a few more months remain in the Guild year, but they are full of many opportunities to engage in supporting our mission! You are the lifeblood of this great organization, and I encourage you to:
- DO volunteer for education initiatives, such as the Musical Petting Zoo or Youth Orchestra auditions. NO MUSICAL EXPERIENCE NECESSARY - just an interest in youth musicians!
- BUY tickets to our biggest fundraiser, Classical Idol, and consider joining the Idol Host Committee.
- SHARE our mission with your friends by hosting a full or partial table at O'-ver-ture. Or share a day at our spring social, the Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens day trip.
Click HERE to access your very own
portal to participation!
There is a way for each and every one of us to connect with the Guild and help keep he music playing in our community!

CONNECTIONS! News
Mah Jongg a bonanza!
The 4th annual Mah Jongg party was held on Jan 10 at Southminster. A total of 82 players attended - each group brought their own games and cards.
Vigourous play began at the stroke of 10 am, following "coffee time," and continued until the lunch break. Door prize drawings followed the lunch period - Guild member, Carol Graham acquired some great (and VERY popular) prizes! Play continued after lunch until the wee hours of the mid-afternoon.
Special thanks to Southminster, which has hosted the Mah Jongg party for the past three years. Very gracious hosts, they convert the main meeting room into a game room for us. They provide a most special, delicious and abundant luncheon for the group at very little cost to us.
The Mah Jongg Party, which was created, is organized and underwritten by Guild member Marlene Parmele, raised nearly $1600 for the Guild. These proceeds will be used to provide financial support for Guild projects.
Thank you Marlene and Committee!!

Guild Winter Meeting Sparkles!
Feb 12, 71 Guild members and guests gathered
at the fabulous Bonterra Restaurant in Dilworth. Young musicians Hanna Spears (violin) and Margaret Lynch (flute) provided beautiful music for the event.
This year's theme was Passport to Spring - Guild members and guests were invited to travel to three stations (SHARE DO BUY) around the room to get their "passports" stamped ... and thus become eligible for a special prize drawing.

We celebrated Milestones for several members - (see Membership section at bottom of left column for the celebrant's names). Not to be outdone, the new member classes for the past two years were seated at two special tables and received a great big shout out!
Very special thanks to Hospitality Chairs Sharon Lacy and Betty Lou Newcomb for planning and executing another stellar event for members.

Youth Festival Exceeds All Expectations Again ...
Thursday, February 21, was an evening to remember. It may not have been an evening in Paris, but the entire production was an evening filled with wonderful, talented musicians. The Charlotte Symphony Youth Orchestra began the evening with the Overture to "Candide" composed by Leonard Bernstein and conducted by Dr. Ernest Pereira.

Young Artists Competition
We think we'll never see a more wonderful group of young musicians, but we are always surprised at the caliber of today's incredible young talent!
