Coach. Amram and the Junior Floor Hockey Champions!

Kol Ha'kavod to the Junior Boys Floor Hockey team who won the Junior Floor Hockey Championship by going a perfect 6-0 in playoff play. The Lions demonstrated fantastic team play, sportsmanship, competitiveness and team spirit. Josh W., Grade 10, was named the tournament's most valuable player, and Max and Shmuel, both Grade 9, received honorable mention. The Junior Lions wrapped up regular season play with a record of 14-2-1 before going undefeated in the playoffs. Well done, boys!

Senior Boys Floor Hockey Team with Coach Amram

Congratulations to the Senior Boys Floor Hockey team who finished in 4th place out of ten teams in the Senior Floor Hockey Championship.  Our Lions demonstrated incredible sportsmanship throughout the entire tournament and truly were wonderful hosts for the event. Many schools commented on our ongoing commitment to honoring the spirit of fair play and enthusiastic competition. We wish the graduating members of the team continued success in their future endeavours. A special thank you to alumnus Joshua Hayes for helping coach the Senior Boys team.

Great weather for tennis!

The Co-ed Tennis team wrapped up their season a few weeks back, finishing the year with a record of 2 wins and 4 losses. The Lions were very competitive even though they played against much larger westside schools. A huge thank you to Grade 12 parent, Martin Ferera and our own Development Associate, Natalie Moravek, for their ongoing instruction and participation with our team.

Bard on the Beach Comes to King David!
"O teach me how I should forget to think"
~ William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet

On Tuesday our class had an incredible introduction to Romeo and Juliet from Dawn who makes her living as an actress in Bard on the Beach. She helped us to relax and as William Shakespeare once wrote, for a few minutes she taught us to "forget to think". She got us on our feet, dancing and acting. Dawn had us pick quotes from Romeo and Juliet and then we made statues with our bodies to go along with the quote. It's incredible to have hands on learning in school and it is refreshing to see how other people view Shakespeare and analyze his timeless stories.
          ~ Elisheva, Grade 8

Grade 8 students performing a scene from Romeo and Juliet

Throughout the class, we were taught about the use of language in Shakespeare, how to perform poetic scenes from Shakespeare, and much more. Thank you to Ms. Wiesenthal for organizing such an exciting experience, we enjoyed it very much!
              ~ Lis, Grade 8

Grade 10 students had the opportunity to participate in
the workshop as well.

"Ms. Wiesenthal  had a little treat for her English class when they stepped through the door. Up to this point Ms. Wiesenthal had her students reading Shakespeare and exploring his style of writing. On Tuesday, the class started "speaking" Shakespeare ..."

Teaching about Diversity

On Thursday our school celebrated diversity. Everyone had a chance to express themselves and be who they wanted to be. During lunch, speaker and advocate, Jen Sung, presented us with a touching movie about a grandfather's acceptance of his granddaughter's sexuality. After that, there was a discussion about the movie and Jen's experience with coping with homophobia. Jen's stories truly touched us, and made us all rethink what we say and do. This day would not have been possible if not for the dedication of Lu Winters, along with many other staff members and PAC.

Honouring Student Achievement
As the school year draws to an end, we gather together to celebrate the most important part of King David, our students. We invite all parents and families to join us on Tuesday May 28th for this special evening as we feature student art, drama and music performances and delicious food from our culinary program. During the evening we will also present student awards for all of our courses.

It's an evening not to be missed and a chance to say Kol Ha'Kavod!

You are invited ....
Eleanor Braude, King David's Jewish History teacher, is retiring! Her impact on our students has been profound and we invite you to join us as we honour Eleanor for the many years spent inspiring and educating the youth in our community.
