So Long Grade 8s! Safe Travels!
|
On Sunday, the largest King David delegation of 37 Grade 8 students and 4 staff, will be boarding an early morning flight bound for Toronto and then onto Israel!
"I would like to wish the Grade 8 staff and students a "n'siyah tovah" on behalf of the P2G Committee of Federation. We hope you will have a fun, meaningful, and memorable "mifgash" with Har Vagai, our P2G partner school."
~ Pam Wolfman, Chair, P2G Committee
Israel is profoundly and effectively woven into the curriculum and culture of King David. The partnering of King David and Har Vagai through the Partnership 2Gether "Gesher Chai" program introduces our students to Israel's challenges and to the persistence of the vision upon which Israel was founded, through the eyes of their Israeli peers and educators. Through these personal encounters our students are coming to know each other and recognize that the Jewish future is jointly in their their hands. Todah Rabah to The Jewish Federation of Vancouver's P2G program for making this trip possible! We look forward to hearing from the group as they travel to and through
the Land of Milk and Honey! Stay tuned for more in next week's newsletter ... | |

Yom Ha'atzmaut at King David!
|
On Tuesday, King David's Yom Ha'atzmaut event saw a community of schools, sponsor organizations, parents, students and teachers - all collaborating and celebrating together. As Russ Klein, King David's Head of School, reflected, "For me it really puts into perspective what education and learning are about - for those students singing and performing and dancing and laughing - these are the memories that last a life time. I know these are the days that give us our soul and without these days we would be just a school."

Audiences across North America have been entertained by the outrageous Jewish humour of Bryan Fogel. Fogel's brainchild,
Jewtopia, is one of the most successful Off-Broadway comedies of all time, prompting the New York Times to hail it as "Unstoppable! One of the biggest and most improbable hits!"
 |
First Row (L-R): Rita Wilson, Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Camryn Manheim, Tom Arnold, Jon Lovitz, Rachel Fox
Second Row (L-R) Bryan Fogel, Lin Shaye
|
The story captures the essence of what it means to be an ethnic minority, while incorporating the timeless Jewish tradition of laughing at one's self. Fogel weaves together stand-up comedy, storytelling, audience participation, excerpts from his book, and clips from his upcoming film to create a one-of-a-kind event. Fogel's Off-Broadway success inspired his book Jewtopia: The Chosen Book for the Chosen People, one of the best-selling Jewish humour books of all time.
