Remembering Dennis Frankenburg z"l
|
It is with great sadness that we recognize the passing of Dennis Frankenburg z"l, one of the visionaries of King David High School. Together with his beloved wife Naomi, the Frankenburg family was an integral part of King David's foundation and capital campaign. Our heartfelt condolences are with Naomi and their children and grandchildren at this time. Dennis and Naomi began their commitment to Jewish education after their children graduated from VTT and there was no Jewish high school. Together their passion, now fulfilled, was to establish a Jewish high school in Vancouver. In Dennis' decade-spanning commitment to our community, he served as treasurer of the Beth Israel Synagogue and the Combined Jewish Appeal and Talmud Torah Building Fund. Dennis was also a life member of the Board of the Jewish Federation of Greater Vancouver. He served as president of Vancouver JNF from 1972 to 1974 and was on the National JNF Board from 1975 to 1977. May his memory be for a blessing.

Random Acts of Chesed Week 2013 is almost here!
|
"Thou shalt teach them [commandments] diligently to your children."
~ Deuteronomy (Devarim) 6:7
King David students are looking forward to our annual Random Acts of Chesed (RAC) Week from February 18th-22nd.
Throughout this year, our students have been learning about the different ways to impact the world around them and developing an understanding of why we have a duty to care for ourselves and the communities
around the world.
RAC week is inspired by our beloved Gabrielle Isserow Z"L whose actions and community involvement represented the spirit of chesed. She performed random acts of chesed every day to everyone around her with humble grace and unyielding generosity.
SAVE THE DATE
Friday, February 22nd 1pm Join us for our celebration of kindness as our students showcase their random acts of kindness from the entire week.
It is an event not to be missed.

King David, VTT and RJDS Students Work Together!
|
On Thursday, December 10th, we welcomed VTT`s Grade 7 students and RJDS`s Grade 6/7 class into our school. We kicked off the RAC Week preparation event by handing out popcorn and cotton candy, while listening to the music of our wonderful very own King David band. The atrium was decorated beautifully with RAC Week colours. The Grade 6 and 7 students previously divided into 4 groups, arrived dressed in the colours of their theme and team. They were here to learn with us and then lead the RAC week activities in their respective schools. The four teams are * Environment - led by a group of Grade 8 students. * Community - led by a group of Grade 9 students. * Friends and family - led by a group of Grade 10 students. * Self - led by a group of Grade 11 students.
The Grade 12 students, also divided into teams, were supervising and coordinating their assigned group. Each group started with an ``ice breaker`` game. After the chosen game, an inspiring program took place. There were many quotes about kindness spread out on the ground, each person was to pick one that related to them personally. Each person then explained why they chose that quote. Each group then brainstormed ideas to do on their RAC week day. Finally, we all play ed a chesed trivia game lead by Rabbi Berger. This day was truly inspirational. We want to thank Shoshana Burton for planning this incredible event. ~ Leeor and Justine, Grade 8

Louis Saitowitz, Class of 2010
|
Rachel and Kira, Grade 11, have taken on the task of contacting alumni to find out where their journey has taken them since graduating from King David. Through the interviews they are conducting, it is clear that our alumni are successfully carving places for themselves in a variety of professions and in many cities throughout the world. Today's spotlight shines on Louis Saitowitz. "I have always loved working with food especially eating it, to me food and every dish created is a learning experience. From learning how to work with raw ingredients, to how a full dish is actually created, has always fascinated me. It has been a passion of mine since I was a small boy sitting on a stool behind the counter watching my mom cook and prep for the deli we used to own. And now I cook with my brigade day in and out, creating food while having fun."
