Creative Visuals
|
Grade 8 students created posters as a final assignment for The Outsiders novel study. Students had the option of incorporating technology into their presentations, such as using Facebook or texting as their chosen format. The result was some unique and creative visuals which are currently on display in the upstairs hallway.
For Franz Kafka's The Metamorphosis, Grade 10 students chose and created an image to either convey the concept of a metamorphosis, or to illustrate one of the themes of the story. Their posters are also on display in the upstairs hallway.

Learning Life Skills
|
For the second time this month, Psychology 11/12 was treated to a professional master class. Sheryl Davis-Kahn, a Registered Clinical Counselor spoke to the students about CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), a modern psychology technique. She talked to an engaged and spirited audience offering valuable life skills and pointing out that acquiring knowledge and understanding of CBT would not only be beneficial for academic use, but could also be extremely valuable when applied for personal use. CBT, she explained, is essentially the process of becoming aware of one unconscious thought, and then replacing negative self-thoughts (called Negative Automatic Thoughts) with positive ones. Found to be highly successful, CBT can even be applied to mild or medium cases of chronic depression. Sheryl provided the class with a step by step insight on how to utilize CBT, encouraging an array of questions. Unfortunately, the talk was too short but still, it proved an influential experience for the students. ~ Elias, Grade 11
