Basketball Season Begins!
The King David Basketball season kicked off with a bang with our Senior Boys team winning the annual Hebrew Classic by a score of 56-40 against PTI. This year, our Basketball program boasts four teams in the following division: Bantam Boys (Grade 8), Junior Boys (Grades 9-10), Senior Boys (Grades 11-12) and Senior Girls (Grades 8-12). Coaches Noah Cantor and Rabbi Stephen Berger return for their second season to coach the Senior Boys, David Amram returns for his seventh season coaching the Bantam and Junior Boys, and coaches Liza Rozen-Delman and Naomi Youngson return for their second season to coach the Senior Girls. Thanks to all of the coaches, players and parents who make our basketball season so special. A very large thank you to PAC and School administration for providing the girls with brand new and very impressive basketball uniforms.

King David Jazz Band Rocks the House!
Last night, for the first time, the King David Jazz Band appeared at the Battle of the Bands at the River Rock Casino Resort's Theatre. The band showcased the music of George Gershwin and other Jazz standards. The Jazz Band members are: Eli, Bram and Micah (Guitar), Jeremy (Bass Guitar), Michael (Drums), Noah (Alto Sax), Bayle (Piano) and Claire (Vocals). The music and performances were golden and as Claire sang, "Summertime, and the living is easy....." "It was really fun to be able to perform in a place where I felt comfortable and yet I was performing in front of a large crowd." ~ Bayle, Grade 11, Pianist | | King David Jazz Band performs at Battle of the Bands |

Societal Ethics and Human Needs
On November 17th the Grade 11/12 Psychology class was treated to a special lecture by Dr. Gary Lazar, a psychiatrist in the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Department of UBC Children's Hospital, and a teacher of Psychology at the University of British Columbia. Dr. Lazar spoke with the students about the nature of societal ethics and human needs and how they are bent, forgotten, and torn aside when society becomes stressed. He did an excellent job relating the subject to relevant current events, engaging the already inspired class even more. Dr. Lazar has regularly been invited to speak with Ms. Wiesenthal's Psychology class several times over the years and with this last presentation he is sure to be back!

A Healthy Heart
On Wednesday November 28th, Dr. Saul Isserow concluded our Adult Education Series for this year. Dr. Isserow's talents are evident in the awards he has received which commend his teaching skills and sense of connectedness to his patients, colleagues and students. His ability to make anatomy, heart disease and statistics engaging, insightful and funny was remarkable. Infusing Jewish humor, Dr. Isserow ensured the crowd of bubbes and zaydees (grandparents) and pishers (young) didn't plotz (have a stroke) as he discussed the tsuris (problems) related to heart disease. Some were kvetching (complaining) to learn the role of exercise in reducing heart disease, though by end they were all kvelling (happy) with the wonderful talk. A heart-felt thank you to Dr. Isserow for his time and wonderful presentation.

King David Alumni Work Together!
This week Kira and Rachel, Grade 10, interviewed Adam Bogoch and David Kaye, both graduates of King David, who are currently working on their second film together! | |
David Kaye and Adam Bogoch with ET Canada's Rick Campanelli
1. Why did you decide to go into the film industry / when did you realize this was your passion?
David: "I started working in the film industry when I was 4, and I've been doing it ever since. I guess deep down I always knew that I wanted to work in Film and TV, but I wanted to be a chef until I was about 16."
Adam: "It happened when I was about eleven or twelve upon seeing the 'Lord of the Rings' for the first time... thinking that it looked fun to make... and easy... I was a really stupid kid. So I decided to go and make movies... completely unaware that it would be more than just a hobby, or career choice, but also a lifestyle alteration. I was lucky enough to have the right support, and meet the right people, and have the right guidance to start making things that looked like movies at such a young age. I am, and will be, forever grateful for the help I received, and that I continue to receive. It's escapism. And it's just so aggravatingly fun."
