Go Lions!
"What we are especially proud of with these teams, is their excellent team spirit, positive attitude and great sportsmanship!"
~ Coaches David Amram (Volleyball) and Carla Yaxley (Soccer)

All students are welcome to join King David's athletic teams, even if they have never played for a school team before. Our athletic program, in which we compete with other private schools, encourages students to display high standards of sportsmanship, teamwork, cooperation and enthusiasm. Students involved in  extracurricular athletics take great pride in representing King David and demonstrating both positive attitudes and great leadership attributes.

Our Boys Soccer team boasts 26 players from all grades. The players show their tenacity, teamwork and skills every day on the field and have fun cheering each other on from the sidelines as well. There are many reasons why soccer, "the beautiful game", is the most played sport around the globe. It takes incredible endurance, strategy, agility and creativity combined with physical strength, and that intangible spark of teamwork and chemistry among every player on the field. The team has been working hard, with practices and games almost every day after school since the year started in September and it has paid off with some memorable moments and great times. We were also fortunate enough to have a world class soccer freestyler, A.K. Bao, come to a practice to show the team some moves and to share some inspiring thoughts and advice. As the season comes to a close, the senior players will take with them some great memories and we hope all our junior players will return for more next year! (Carla Yaxley)

A.K. Bao demonstrates his world class moves!

King David is fielding three girls volleyball teams for the first time in our school's history. We have Bantam (Grade 8), Junior (Grades 9 -10) and Senior (Grades 11-12) teams this season, and all three teams are having a lot of fun! The teams are working on improving their volleyball skills and achieving sound tactical and strategic play. They are an absolute pleasure to coach! The playoffs begin in the first week of November and it is going to be fun for all of us! (David Amram)

We Day 2012
"We Day was truly incredible. We were all blown away by the passion that the speakers and celebrities displayed. My favourite part was when Spencer West (a man with no legs who walks on his hands) talked to us about accomplishing our dreams. He explained that nothing can stop us when we set our minds to it. He told his own personal experience of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro with a physical disability. After attending We Day, I am inspired and excited to start taking action in my community and world. We Day has been a great start to the year!"
                                ~ Lis, Grade 8

We Day is the call that brings a generation together. The packed arena at We Day Vancouver was filled with 18,000 young idealists ready to work together to take action and truly be the change! They heard from exceptional speakers and performers like Magic Johnson, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Cody Simpson, Demi Lovato, and of course, Free The Children and Me2We Co-Founders, Craig and Marc Kielburger! King David is proud to have had Marc Kielberger as the inspirational speaker at our 2011 Teaching for Tomorrow Event.

The Adolescent Brain ...
On Wednesday, October 24th over 40 parents and community members gathered in the hope of developing an understanding of the adolescent brain. Dr. Kathryn Selby, Pediatric Neurologist at Children's Hospital took us through the development and structure of the adolescent brain. She drew attention to the fact that the CEO of the brain, responsible for reasoning and decision making is not yet fully developed at this stage. As a King David parent herself, Dr. Selby reassured us that while the adolescent may be pushing the parent away, their child ultimately wants the connection and guidance that parents provide. In addition, Dr. Selby mentioned that Shabbat dinners, family time and a community of caring adults can serve as a protective factor against the potential risks of this volatile stage in development.  According to the survey completed by  attendees the event was a huge success. We look forward to continuing this momentum at our next two events...
