Turning Values into Action
|
"Last week I had the pleasure of volunteering at Mission Possible in the Downtown Eastside with a small group of students. The students were awesome - serving food, cleaning up and talking and smiling with the patrons. It is not an easy experience at times but it definitely leaves one with a deep appreciation of how lucky we are in the King David Family."
~ Russ Klein, Head of School
In keeping with our school's commitment to Tikkun Olam (repairing the world), all King David students and families have many opportunities to participate in community service during the year at King David.
Students turn values into action and bring their time and talents to community organizations as part of their high school experience. Already this year, groups of students have volunteered in the Downtown Eastside at The Door is Open and Mission Possible; participated in Jog4Joy, a walk to raise awareness for mental and emotional wellness; and prepared and served food for those in need on the Downtown Eastside during Sukkot.

Our visiting Israeli students and their teachers welcomed the opportunity to spend a Sunday during Sukkot, working alongside us as we provided food, toiletries and towels to people living on the Downtown Eastside. Thank you to Schara Tzedeck and Rabbi Rosenblatt for their participation and support of this event and to Rabbi Baitelman of Chabad Richmond for lending us the "mobile Sukkah". Thank you as well to the Jewish Federation of Greater Vancouver's P2G (Partnership 2Gether) program for making experiences like this possible - we could not do it without their support.. | | Noga, Grade 9, serves food on the Downtown Eastside |

KDHS Family Directory
|
We are in the final stages of preparing the KDHS Family Directory for distribution to King David families. The directory includes student and parent names, address and home telephone numbers. Those families who indicated on the enrollment/re-enrollment forms that they would like to opt out are not included. We are providing families with one last opportunity to update information or to opt out and not be included on the list.

It's that time of year again!
|
That's right, the King David High School annual musical is up and running after having official auditions last week. An energetic new group of Grade 8 students made up the majority of auditions, while a couple of stage veterans from Grades 9, 10 and 12 wowed the small crowd with their singing and stand-up! This year's musical is a Broadway adaptation of the Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore film The Wedding Singer. The story involves Robbie Hart, New Jersey's favorite wedding singer, whose fiancee leaves him at the altar. Heartbroken, he is forced to reexamine the meaning of love and marriage with the help of Julia, a waitress from one of his wedding-singing venues. Dust off your dancing shoes and get your fishnet gloves ready, because on March 12 and13 we're gonna party like it's 1985!
