Please note the July Soiree date, hosted by Carol and Ron Vantine, has been moved up to July 24th, 5:00 pm. The calendar has been changed to reflect this revision. As registration is limited, you may want to register early!

War is hell. There's no getting around it. If you or someone you know had a childhood that was shaped by the manifestations of war, you'll want to consider attending the Author Celebration: Catherine Madison on July 19th. Join us as local journalist Catherine Madison shares her harrowing yet painfully poignant memories of her father who withstood a prison camp's unspeakable inhumanity, and her struggle to withstand the residual cruelty that came home with him.

Rendezvous Readers' Book Chat
Wednesday, July 6, 9:30 - 10:30 am
Guthrie Theater Level 5 Express, 818 2nd St S
Join us to discuss The Gift of Years: Growing Older Gracefully by Joan Chittister. From Publisher's Weekly: Well-known in Catholic circles for her willingness to take on anybody--even the pope--in defense of women's rights, Chittister, now in her 70s, examines how it feels "to be facing that time of life for which there is no career plan." This collection of inspirational reflections, "not meant to be read in one sitting, or even in order, but one topic at a time," abounds in gentle insights and arresting aphorisms: "'Act your age' can be useful advice when you're 17; it's a mistake when you're 77."

If you'd like to read ahead, August's book is A Star for Mrs. Blake by April Smith. Have a book suggestion for the Book Chat? Email Barbara Goldner.
