Update From the Executive Director

Happy spring, everyone! It is good to be able to safely walk, bike and run around the neighborhood again. The St. Anthony Falls gush with the recent rainfall additions, while street sweepers gobble up winter's detrituse. Soon, pesky neighborhood rabbits will feast on tender new shoots and the growing cycle will begin anew. We'll have survived another Minnesota winter!

This Thursday's Big Money & Politics discussion, originally scheduled for early February but canceled due to a snow storm, will be presented by Jeremy Schroder, executive director of Common Cause Minnesota. His unique perspective as a seasoned campaign manager and advocate for worker and human rights will make for a very interesting discussion. You may register here for this event. Thanks in advance to MCC hosts Cecily Hines and Tom Pettus.

First quarter membership renewals have come in at a brisk pace - thank you! Slowly but surely, Betsy and I are covering Mary's workload in her absence. Our new office phones (same number) have some marvelous new features, one of which is the ability to leave a message for a specific person. Simply listen to and reply to the message prompt. We'll get back to you just as soon as we can!

Safe holiday/spring break travels to all!

Thursday, March 24, 7:00 - 8:30 pm
Stonebridge, 1120 S 2nd St, #709
In the six years since the Supreme Court decision in Citizens United, campaign spending by special interest groups has risen exponentially. If the ideals of our nation's founders are to remain true and "the people" are to have a voice, this needs to change. Speaker Jeremy Schroeder is executive director of Common Cause Minnesota. He joined the organization in 2012 after more than a decade of leading campaigns on behalf of worker rights and human rights and against capital punishment. Cecily Hines and Tom Pettus host at Stonebridge.

Downtown: Minneapolis in the 1970s Exhibit

In the 1970s, Dayton's was in its prime, the new Nicollet Mall was full of people, the Foshay Tower was still king and the IDS Center was beginning its rise. Mike Evangelist, a 17-year-old from the suburbs, turned his lens to the scenes around him, capturing a vibrant and rapidly changing city. Forty years later, he unearthed this trove of images, which visitors can explore in this exhibit. Last chance! The exhibit closes April 3. More information is available here.
