Technology Workshop: Creating & Managing Secure Passwords

Learn how to create and manage passwords that will keep your online accounts safe from hackers and accessible only by you or a designated representative. Now that they are secure, what if something were to happen to you? Would your descendants need access to your personal or professional websites and blogs? This workshop will show you how to plan ahead and be secure. Brian Roemen from Backpack Tactics will lead this informative workshop.

Coffee and camaraderie for the male members of MCC! This group meets every other Thursday and is hosted by various members who get the conversation going. Bob Callahan will introduce former MCC member Peter Levine, who will lead a conversation with Patrick Todd, Minneapolis City Assessor.  Learn how your property taxes are determined and what might be in store for the future.  Bring your questions and concerns.

Nosy Neighbor Tour:  Minnesota Public Radio

MPR Headquarters, 480 Cedar St, St. Paul
Take this behind-the-scenes tour of one of the nation's premier public radio stations!  The tour will include a visit to the studios, newsroom and the music library.  You'll meet  Brian Newhouse, Managing Director of Classical MPR and APM, and you might also get the chance to meet some of your favorite on air hosts and behind-the-scenes staff.  Members can opt to take MetroTransit's Green line to the Central Station stop and walk one block to MPR's office.

Snowden Revelations:  A Conversation with Former NSA Officer Gene Yeates

Join a discussion about the role of the National Security Agency (NSA) in current government affairs.  Guest speaker, Eugene Yeates, will lead the conversation. Eugene Yeates has worked nearly 50 years in the fields of intelligence and national security, including 30 years with the NSA.   Some of his key assignments included Chief, Office of Legislative Affairs; Director of Policy; and Associate Deputy Director of Operations.  Mr. Yeates is a Minneapolis native who is currently residing in New Hampshire.

MCC women, you are invited to attend Our Turn: A Conversation for Women.  This group meets every other Thursday alternating between morning and afternoon times.  This week Carol Jordan and Arvonne Fraser host Minneapolis Mayor Betsy Hodges, who will give women an update on current issues affecting Minneapolis. There will also be time for your questions to be answered by Mayor Hodges.

In the Know: Ecumen's Mill City Quarter Senior Housing Project

Learn the latest on development in the neighborhood from Matt McNeill, Ecumen's Director of Business Development.  Mill City Quarter is the name of the parcel adjacent to RiverWest -- plans are to break ground next spring for two new multi-unit housing developments. Ecumen is developing half the parcel into independent senior housing with a memory care floor. Find out more about their plans to provide the neighborhood with more than senior housing, but public spaces as well.

Encore!  Photo Tips: How to Make Fine Art Photographs

Back by popular demand!  In this program, MCC Member Mike Rosen will once again share some thoughts and techniques on how to raise your image quality to the level of an art form rather than simply postcard-like snapshots.  Mike is both a world traveler and serious fine art photographer.  He will use some of his favorite photos from around the world (including recent trips to the Columbia and Snake Rivers and Lake Superior's North Shore) to illustrate how you can notice, see the beauty in and clearly define your subjects, and then compose artistic, creative images.  The program will not cover how to use your cameras, exposure settings or editing.

MCC member Ellen Breyer has two tickets for the Saturday, October 25, 8:00 pm sold out performance of Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time playing at the Barrymore Theatre in New York City.  She is offering these $200 orchestra seats for $150 each.  Please contact Ellen at 651-485-8200.

MCC member Ellie Hands would like members to know that the Minnesota Network of Hospice and Palliative Care is hosting their first free fundraiser on October 28 from 6:00-7:30 pm at Open Book, 1011 S Washington Ave.  RSVP here for an evening of inspiration and information, as well as appetizers and refreshments.

MCC Member Patty Connelly invites you to join her for a very fun event at the Minneapolis Club on Wednesday, Nov. 12 from 5:30-7:30 pm.  This is the Second Annual Artisan Night, featuring an eclectic mix of mostly-local vendors who have an exciting array of goods. Vendors include Askov-Finlayson, Filson, Shinola... twenty-seven vendors in all.  There is no registration or fee for this event. Live music. Cash bar. Please come!

Water Works Park Vision Presentation and Public Open House

It's been more than 50 years since the Mississippi River thundered through the 34 foot deep and 50 foot wide "great canal."  Now there is a new vision for excavating and experiencing the canal.  Listen to the presentation at the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board meeting or see the Water Works design and meet the designers at the Open House.   For more details, click here.

 

Made in Minnesota Concert

MN Composer Stephen Paulus died on Sunday, October 19, and will be remembered during VocalEssence's performance of his aria called "North Shore."  The concert will celebrate all that Minnesota has to offer with pieces by longstanding Minnesota composer.  For more information or to purchase tickets, click here.
