Executive Director Update

This evening's discussion following the documentary "Alive Inside: A Story of Music & Memory" is at capacity, but I encourage you to attend the award winning film at your convenience -- it is showing all week at the Edina Cinema. (It previewed earlier this year at the Minneapolis/Saint Paul International Film Festival.) To see a short trailer for the film, click on the link in the program description below.
The topic of music and memory is also top of mind at MacPhail Center for Music. MacPhail is designing a unique and fun choral experience for people living with Alzheimer's and their caregivers called Giving Voice. The chorus will rehearse weekly on Wednesday mornings starting September 10th.  In addition to getting the word out about the opportunity to participate in its program, MacPhail is looking for volunteers to serve as greeters, recorders and singers to accompany those who may not have a caregiver available on a given morning. You'll find more information on MacPhail's website. No vocal experience is required -- only the love of singing. Sounds wonderful!

Movie and Discussion: Alive Inside
Tuesday, August 19, Movie 4:45-6:00pm; Discussion 6:45-8:00pm
Movie: Edina Cinema Landmark Theater, 3911 West 50th Street, Edina
Discussion: Karla Ekdahl and Peter Hutchinson's home, 1621 Mount Curve
Attend a screening of Alive Inside, an award-winning documentary film.  The film focuses on Dan Cohen, founder of the nonprofit organization "Music and Memory," who discovered that for people with memory loss, favorite songs are intact in a part of the brain that is still alive when all other communication and awareness seem irretrievably lost.  Watch as music makes blank faces and somber visages erupt into joy.  (There is no limit on the number, nor registration required, for members who would like to only attend the public screening at The Edina Cinema.)

There is limited space to convene at Karla Ekdahl and Peter Hutchinson's home for cheese, wine, and discussion after the film (sorry, registration is full for the discussion). MSP Film Society's Executive Director will kick off the discussion.

Registration is now closed for the discussion.  Members and guests are welcome to attend the film from 4:45-6:00 pm.
