Executive Director Update
 
Congratulations to the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board on being recognized by the Trust for Public Land as the best park system in the nation for the second year in a row! Minneapolis' Park Score Index earned it the only perfect "5-park bench" rating of the 60 cities on the list -- beating out New York City, Boston, Portland, San Francisco, and Washington DC. This weekend things are really hopping in the neighborhood! The Stone Arch Bridge Festival kicks off at 7:00pm Friday with a concert on Water Power Park. Artist booths are open from 10:00-10:00 Saturday and 10:00-5:00 Sunday featuring 250 artists. The Northern Spark festival starts at 9:01pm Saturday night with 100s of national and local artists performing in various Minneapolis venues from sundown to sunrise. Nosy Neighbor Tour:  Izzy's Ice Cream 
Monday, June 16, 3:00 - 4:00 pm

Join us for a special summer treat!  It's a sneak peek at Izzy's ice cream manufacturing process during business hours. You'll see ice cream being made, learn about the local sources for their ingredients, and hear how the architect, David Salmela, designed the building for efficiency and appeal.  Dutch treat for an ice cream cone after the tour!

Men's Coffee and Conversation

Coffee and camaraderie for the male members of MCC! This group meets every other Thursday and is hosted by various members who get the conversation going.  This week's topic will be hosted by Dick Olson on "Mill City Quarters," a facility Ecumen is planning to build on 2nd Street across from MacPhail.  Matt McNeill, the executive responsible for oversight of the new facility, will speak with the group on the market-rate rental which will have a menu of in-home support available and one floor dedicated to memory care.

Twins Baseball

Target Field, 1 Twins Way
Connect with other MCC members while watching the Twins play their divisional foe, the Chicago White Sox. Allan Burdick has reserved a block of tickets in Sections 321 and 322, Rows 2-4, between third base and home plate with a great view of the downtown skyline.  The ticket price is $23 per seat.  Join us to cheer on the home team!  Guests (family, neighbors, & friends) are welcome. First pitch is at 7:10 pm.

MCC Urban Garden Party

Celebrate Mill City Commons with delicious hors d'oeuvres, beverages, and music. Please join us -- we wouldn't be here without you!  We'll be celebrating friendships, fun, neighborhood, and community at the Towers Garden Room. Suggested cash donation at door:  $10/person. 
 
Parking In addition to metered parking on South 1st Street, the Standard Parking Hennepin Avenue Surface Parking Lot is located directly across Hennepin Avenue from the Towers. The entrance is on North 2nd Street. This lot requires a credit or debit card upon entrance and exit and is $3 after 4:00pm.

Stone Arch Bridge Festival

Join your neighbors June 13-15 for a weekend of art and music on the Minneapolis riverfront.  Featuring 250 artists, a pop up car show, family art activities, and a motorcycle gallery.  For more information, click here.

 

Northern Spark:  Projecting the City

June 14, 9 pm - 5 am, various downtown locations

Gather along the riverfront and throughout the city to explore giant video projections, play in temporary installations in the streets, and enjoy experimental performances in green spaces and under bridges.  For more information, click here.

 

Nordic Singers in Concert

June 21, 7:30 pm, Minnehaha Academy Theatre, North Campus, 3100 W River Pkwy

Singers comprised of four members of the Royal Opera in Copenhagen, Denmark, return for a lively concert spanning traditional and contemporary Scandinavian favorites.  Tickets are $25 and can be purchased here.

 

Pedal Pub Event

June 22, 12:00-6:00 pm, University Avenue from First Avenue NE to East Hennepin

Register your own Pedal Pub Team to compete for a chance to win the 2014 Pedal Pub Race Title and celebrate Northeast food, music, and more.  Awards given for "Best Costume" and "Best Team Spirit."  Food trucks, live music, and a beer garden in Surdyk's parking lot.  For more information, click here.

 

Mill City Summer Opera Presents:  Guns N' Rosenkavalier

July 21 and July 23, 8:00 pm, Mill City Museum, 818 2nd St South, Ruin Courtyard

Mill City Summer Opera will feature a unique collaborative concert under the stars. The show includes both rock songs and classical art songs and will feature Minnesota native Andrew Wilkowske and post post-feminist horn experience Genghis Barbie. Tickets are $25-$50 and can be purchased here.

...how to know if your event registration is complete?
The key to successfully registering for an event on our members only website is to click "Complete Registration" at the bottom of the Event Registration Summary page.

  However, there are a few ways you can be certain that you registered for an MCC event on the website: 1.  You see a pop up window after clicking "Complete Registration" that says "Your registration has been saved."
2.  You receive an email confirmation that you registered.
3.  You look at the list of registrants and see your name listed.
4.  You receive an email reminder the day before the event.
