Did you know the Mill City Commons members only website has a Photo Gallery with pictures from various MCC events and activities? A special thank you to MCC member Peggy Weber for sharing her love of photography with MCC. Peggy is not only a talented photographer, her high energy makes everyone in her pictures smile! And many thanks to MCC Program Coordinator/Administrative Assistant Mary Texidor for taking Peggy's pictures and creating Photo Albums on the members only website. Coffee and camaraderie for the male members of MCC! This group meets every other Thursday and is hosted by various members who get the conversation going.  This week's host is Bob Whitlock who will be introducing Captain Brent McMurry, the commanding officer of the Navy Operational Support Center in Minneapolis.  Captain McMurry will discuss current threats to the Navy and its responses to them, as well as the role of the Navy in today's world.

Do you have a "fear of gym" syndrome?  Curiosity about the SBS classes?  Come to this open and free Thursday afternoon class.  You may watch or join in an exercise or two and then enjoy a snack bar with the group.  The class is held on the 3rd floor. An elevator is available through the main building entrance.

Our Turn: A Conversation for Women 

Thursday, May 1, 3:30 - 5:30 pm

La Rive Community Room and Deck, 110 Bank St SE

MCC women, come and join other women in conversation!  This week's meeting is hosted by Arvonne Fraser who asks "What have you learned lately that surprised, amused, helped you, improved your life or your understanding of the world?  No matter how old or wise we are, we keep learning."

 
Arvonne is extending Our Turn to 5:30 with wine and snacks.  During this time, we would like to have a discussion on Our Turn.  We have been meeting since October, evolving, doing topics, reading an article, having a speaker.  Questions to discuss: What has worked, what needs to change, ideas and feedback are most welcome.

MCC members Bud and Carol Hayden invite members to attend Minnesota Peace Initiative's discussion titled "Ukraine: How Will It Affect East/West Relations? Speed Bump or Major Rift?"  The event is taking place Monday, April 28, 7:30 - 9:00 pm at McNamara Alumni Center, University of Minnesota, 200 Oak St SE.  For more information or to register, click here.
 
MCC member Marsha Blumenthal shares that the Orchid Society of Minnesota is hosting the national orchid show.  There will be 4500 square feet of orchid exhibits, 15 vendors, and lectures May 2-4 at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel in Bloomington. For more information, click here.
 
MCC member Dick Kavaney invites members to join in the fun of Marcy-Holmes Spring Fest on May 3.  Listen to live music, hear stories of historic site sculptures, and much more from 12:00 - 4:00 pm at 6th Ave Greenway and University Ave SE.
 
Several MCC members of the Men's Coffee and Conversation breakfast group are starting an "MCC Table" luncheon at Elsie's on alternating Thursdays.  No reservations, no program, Dutch Treat.  The next gathering will be Thursday, May 1, at 11:30 am.

MCC member Dick Kavaney shares an article on Rails-to-Trails Conservancy's trail of the month: Minnesota's Dinkytown Greenway.
 
MCC member Dick Olson invites members to attend the "Caring for a Person with Memory Loss" conference on May 31.  This free conference will provide information, support, and education to adult children, spouses, parents, and others concerned with caring for persons with memory loss.  Pre-registration is required.  To register or see the conference details, click here.

Spring Ephemeral Wildflowers at the River Gorge

April 26, 10:00-11:30 am, Mississippi River Gorge Park

Enjoy early spring wildflowers during a lovely hike with a naturalist at the Mississippi River Gorge.  The flowers won't be blooming for long, so see them while they last. A Choice of Weapons:  A Living Legacy Docent Tour

April 27 and May 31, 1 pm, Mill City Museum, 704 S 2nd St 

Join a student photographer for a docent-led tour of the exhibit "A Choice of Weapons:  A Living Legacy" on view in the museum's Mill Commons through June 8. The docent-led tours are free but space is limited so preregistration is encouraged. Art-A-Whirl

May 16-18, Northeast Minneapolis 

Presented by the Northeast Minneapolis Arts Association (NEMAA), Art-A-Whirl is the largest open studio tour in the country. It's a great opportunity to tour private artist studios and galleries, connect with the artists, and purchase original artwork.  For more information, click here

Another great resource for getting help on the website is the "?" button on the right hand side of the screen.  When you click it, a screen pops up with helpful information about the page that you are currently viewing.
