Aging Well:  An Ongoing Conversation

Join fellow members to discuss a topic picked by the host on the topic of aging well.  This monthly conversation is part of our Healthy Village Series, programming designed to support quality aging.  Susan Hartman hosts on the topic of "What has been the greatest non-health challenge you have faced as you have aged and what have you learned?"

Coffee and camaraderie for the male members of MCC! This group meets every other Thursday and is hosted by various members who get the conversation going.  This week's host is Bob Whitlock who will be introducing Captain Brent McMurry, the commanding officer of the Navy Operational Support Center in Minneapolis.  Captain McMurry will discuss current threats to the Navy and its responses to them, as well as the role of the Navy in today's world.

Do you have a "fear of gym" syndrome?  Curiosity about the SBS classes?  Come to this open and free Thursday afternoon class.  You may watch or join in an exercise or two and then enjoy a snack bar with the group.  The class is held on the 3rd floor. An elevator is available through the main building entrance.

News From Members 

MCC member Mary Margaret MacMillan invites members to the MovementWise Kick-Off event Wednesday, April 16 at 6:30 pm.  Presented by the Cowles Center, MovementWise is a program designed for adults 55+ that combines movement workshops with arts appreciation and is an exhilarating continuing education program for the dancer in all of us.  For more information, click here.  RSVP by emailing Laura Schoenherr or calling 612.206.3641.
 
Several MCC members of the Men's Coffee and Conversation breakfast group are starting an "MCC Table" luncheon at Elsie's on alternating Thursdays.  No reservations, no program, Dutch Treat.  The first gathering will be Thursday, April 17, at 11:30 am.  
 
MCC member Dick Olson invites members to attend the "Caring for a Person with Memory Loss" conference on May 31.  This free conference will provide information, support, and education to adult children, spouses, parents, and others concerned with caring for persons with memory loss.  Pre-registration is required.  To register or see the conference details, click here.
 
Several MCC members recommend the MSP International Film Festival which runs through April 19.  Choose from over 200 films, panels, events and parties.  This is the largest film event in the region and includes feature length and short form narrative and documentary films from 60+ countries.  For information on tickets and films, click here.

Spring Ephemeral Wildflowers at the River Gorge

April 26, 10:00-11:30 am, Mississippi River Gorge Park

Enjoy early spring wildflowers during a lovely hike with a naturalist at the Mississippi River Gorge.  The flowers won't be blooming for long, so see them while they last. A Choice of Weapons:  A Living Legacy Docent Tour

April 27 and May 31, 1 pm, Mill City Museum, 704 S 2nd St 

Join a student photographer for a docent-led tour of the exhibit "A Choice of Weapons:  A Living Legacy" on view in the museum's Mill Commons through June 8. The docent-led tours are free but space is limited so preregistration is encouraged. Art-A-Whirl

May 16-18, Northeast Minneapolis 

Presented by the Northeast Minneapolis Arts Association (NEMAA), Art-A-Whirl is the largest open studio tour in the country. It's a great opportunity to tour private artist studios and galleries, connect with the artists, and purchase original artwork.  For more information, click here

If your plans change and you need to cancel a registration, log into the website and  
1. Hover your cursor over your name and click on "Profile."  
2. Click on "Event History" under the Financial/Historical Data section of the page.  You'll see a list of events that you've registered for.  
3. Click on "Cancel" by the event that you can't attend.

Another great resource for getting help on the website is the "?" button on the right hand side of the screen.  When you click it, a screen pops up with helpful information about the page that you are currently viewing.
