News From Members

MCC member Laura Crosby has a photograph in an exhibition titled Liminal Communities, opening March 6th in New York City at A.I.R. Gallery, 111 Front St #228. This exhibition brings together the work of 19 national and international artists. Laura's photograph documents homeless youth finding shelter under a viaduct in Minneapolis and is titled Home Address: 2,500* Viaduct Ave, Minneapolis MN * The number of homeless youth on any given night in Minneapolis. MCC Member Dick Kavaney invites us to tap our creativity and join a brainstorming session that will be a step toward shaping, animating and rejuvenating the Marcy Holmes Neighborhood.  Participants will be asked to identify "creative place-makers:" places, people and events that will get support in the future.  These may include partners from the public, private and nonprofit sectors and the community that strategically shape the physical and social character of the neighborhood around arts and cultural activities.  The organizers promise a fun event, led by members of the Creative Places Committee of the Marcy Holmes Neighborhood Association.  Come to the Aster Café on Thursday, March 13th from 7:00-8:30 pm (no later), 125 SE Main Street.

MCC member Carol Jordan invites you to experience the documentary, "Mexico Uncovered." Facilitated by Mary Stucky, long-time contributor to national shows on public and commercial radio, there will be a lively conversation via Skype with some of the young American and Mexican journalists who reported on stories for this documentary. Also participating, live from Mexico City, will be the host of the program, Daniel Hernandez.  This program is part of Minnesota International Center's 2014 focus on Mexico in collaboration with the Friends of the Minneapolis Central Library and Round Earth Media. Monday, March 31, 5:30pm registration; 6-7:30pm program; Minneapolis Central Library's Pohlad Hall. Free but registration is requested micglobe.org or 612-625-1662.

MCC members Kim Eslinger and Dave Tinjum have created a metro website devoted specifically to our neighborhood. It's a place to go to find out what's happening, whether it's a new restaurant opening, a local event, proposed new construction, etc.  Check it out at MillCityTimes.com.
