There is still time to register for today's Burnet Gallery Tour and Happy Hour at Le Meridian Chambers! The Chambers has valet parking at their entrance on 9th Street right before Hennepin Avenue ($5). Take a look at the Registrants list on the members only website and invite a member to join you! Thank you, MCC member Madeline Betsch, for proposing this wonderful event to our Program Committee!  The Committee has developed a process for sharing members' ideas -- please read about it in the "Did You Know?" column to the right.

Burnet Gallery Tour:  Anne Labovitz

Burnet Gallery at Le Meridian Chambers, 901 Hennepin Ave
 
Join us for artist Anne Labovitz's solo show, "Layers" at the Burnet Gallery, a commercial gallery located in Le Meridian Chambers.  View Ms. Labovitz's collection of portraits - composite, multi-tiered works consisting of layer upon layer of woodcuts and drawings to create a singular impression.  Each portrait is constructed over time with 100 or more layers of images and includes several different individuals, speaking to the different aspects within each of us.  The Weisman recently acquired two of the artist's pieces in this exhibit.  Appetizers will be provided by MCC member Madeline Betsch, who has several works by Anne in her home.  A cash bar will be available.

Social Bridge

Aging Well:  An Ongoing Conversation

World View: The Baltics

Join Charlotte and Bill Davnie and Patty Connelly for a casual conversation about the beautiful Baltic countries of Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia. Bill and Charlotte were posted in Vilnius, Lithuania, for two years with the Foreign Service, and have extensive knowledge of the area. Patty visited the Baltics in September 2013 and was completely charmed by these three hidden treasures. We will be discussing the history, cultures and traditions of these lesser-known countries in an informal setting.

Guest speaker, Edward J. Holland, will discuss grief's questions and healing resources. Edward J. Holland, MDiv, BCC, LMFT, currently serves as the Coordinator of Spiritual Care and Grief Support at Park Nicollet Methodist Hospice, in Minneapolis, a program he helped to create in 1979. Edward is a certified Respecting Choices © Advance Care Planning Facilitator and Instructor and serves as a member of Park Nicollet's Caring Choices Advance Care Planning Team.

Coffee and camaraderie for the male members of MCC! This group meets every other Thursday and is hosted by various members who get the conversation going. 

This week, Peter Lefferts will facilitate an informal, open discussion on "bucket lists" and "unfinished business." Peter will offer a couple of brief personal experiences in "closing the loop" with memorable people in his own personal history and then open the discussion for C&C participants to share their own experiences. What were the outcomes? What were the learnings?

MCC member Karla Ekdahl shares the link to the Nora Gallagher interview with Kerri Miller which was done in October of 2013 and was replayed last week.  Karla says, "It was a really powerful discussion and felt relevant to our organization and its members.  Nora Gallagher wrote Moonlight Sonata at the Mayo Clinic, a memoir about her journey through illness."

MCC member Dick Olson would like to invite other MCC members to get involved as Beta Testers for a new computer application identified by AgePower Tech Search (jointly supported by Ecumen and MOJO Minnesota). AgePower locates and promotes new innovations that could have a positive impact on aging. They have identified a number of businesses including ForMyChildren which is enlisting people to try out their product code and report on any problems during a Beta Test. Two videos will introduce ForMyChildren as a secure storage for important values, memories, pictures and documents. New Webster School Feedback Meeting

The re-opening of Webster School will enhance our downtown community. 

The Downtown Minneapolis School Initiative - a joint committee of the North Loop Neighborhood Association, Downtown Minneapolis Neighborhood Association and Elliot Park Neighborhood - is hosting a meeting to collect your thoughts and ideas for the new Webster School. All neighbors and families impacted by this new school are invited to attend and provide feedback.

Mississippi River Forum: "Envision Infrastructure Evaluation"

Learn how our future infrastructure may be designed and evaluated. The presentation will describe Envision, a program that holistically evaluates the community and the environmental and economic benefits of infrastructure projects-including water systems. Fifth Annual Cuban Film Festival

The Fifth Annual Minnesota Cuban Film Festival will once again present a selection of the best new and vintage Cuban cinema. This year the theme is Women and Afro-Cubans in Cuban Cinema, dedicated to the continuing fight for the release of the Cuban 5 and the ongoing struggle for racial equality. Nordic Lights Film Festival - Twin Cities

February 28 - March 6, St. Anthony Main Theatre, 115 Main Street SE

The fifth annual Nordic Lights Film Festival - Twin Cities, in partnership with The Film Society of Minneapolis St. Paul, will once again include a variety of feature-length and short films from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Sápmi. This year the opening night will feature a talk by Nordic film scholar Anna Stenport entitled "Nordic Film: Fire & Ice." This talk will be open to the public and free with purchase of a ticket to the film following the talk, Above Dark Waters.
