Mill City Commons

In the Know!

Music...gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life. (Plato). If you're the one playing the instrument it might also benefit your brain. A growing body of evidence suggests that learning to play an instrument and continuing to practice and play it may offer mental benefits throughout life.

MCC member Peg Kavaney grew up with music - fond memories of her mother at the piano, and her own piano lessons. Peg is once again a piano student, at our wonderful McPhail Center for Music. In a class of three adults, she is again enjoying the music and the learning. She also loves the new friendships, including the occasional after-class glass of wine with her fellow students.

Peg highly recommends her piano teacher, Susan Genaw. If piano is not your thing, take a look at McPhail's course catalog. There is something for every music lover at this rich resource located right in our neighborhood. Music not only soothes the soul, it benefits the brain.
