The Woman's Club of Minneapolis has provided a splendid retreat for outstanding women and men since The Woman's Club 1907. The current Clubhouse, built in 1928, has been designated by the City of Minneapolis as a Historic Treasure, and offers breathtaking views of Loring Park and downtown Minneapolis. From the lovely lounge to the grand ballroom to the inviting library, the Clubhouse boasts more than 66,000 square feet of impressive and intimate spaces. In May 2006, they celebrated the opening of their rooftop patio - one of the most spectacular spots in the Twin Cities, with unparalleled views of downtown Minneapolis and Loring Park. The tour will end at the bar for Happy Hour!

National Night Out
Tuesday, August 6, 5:00-9:00 pm 
Chicago Plaza, Chute Square, West River Parkway at Hennepin Avenue and other neighborhood block party locations  
National Night Out is an annual nationwide event that encourages residents to get out in the community, holding block parties and getting to know their neighbors as a way to encourage crime prevention. It's a great way to promote community-police partnerships and enjoy a Minnesota summer evening surrounded by friends and family.

Why is this happening and what can we do?

Learn about the effects of aging on balance and how to prevent falls. Hear from a panel of experts including Jennifer Jackson, Rehab Director for Gentiva Home Health Care, Jennie Delisi, Assistive Technology Resource Specialist for the Minnesota STAR Program and Elliott Royce, presenter on
The Art of Falling. Elliott is an active 94 year old whose passion is demonstrating "How I learned to fall safely" to local groups. We're told Elliott's demonstrations are both fun and insightful.

Architectural Necklace Tour with Preserve Minneapolis

Saturday, August 10, 1:00-2:30pm
Meet at West 25th Street and East Lake of the Isles Parkway (east side of lake)
The winding eastern shoreline of Lake of the Isles displays some of Minneapolis' most splendid residential architecture, exemplifying design talents of several of the region's influential architects and influencing both Minneapolis' social patterns and its architectural patterns. Early 20th-century residences by Edwin Lundie, William Kenyon, and Purcell and Elmslie rest alongside the later-to-come Liebenberg and Kaplan. Join preservationist Bob Roscoe as he guides us along this architectural necklace. This tour walks approximately 10 blocks.

MCC Author Celebration: Judy Healey
Tuesday, August 13, 4:00-5:30pm Weyerhaeuser
Washburn Lofts Community Rom, 700 South 2nd Street
Join fellow members for an exclusive reading of Frederick Weyerhaeuser and the American West. Judy will share information about the book, how it came about, where she found resources (attics on Cape Cod, attics in Saulheim, Germany, archives in office towers in Seattle, and corporate offices in Tacoma, newspaper articles in Rock Island, Ill, etc.) and how it felt to have letters in her hand that were written 150 years ago etc. A character emerges from these various resources and Judy will read (mostly letters) that illustrate what kind of man he was, what he faced in his life, his strengths and weaknesses, and his relationships with kids and grandchildren. Expect a biography-newsy talk, interspersed with lots of short reading clips.

MCC Member Cecily Hines says members should grab a neighbor, a blanket or chair and head to West River Parkway just south of Broadway Avenue in North Minneapolis for the Twin Cities River Rats Water Ski Shows on Thursdays around 6:30pm through August. You'll see the spectacular feats of barefooters, high flying jumpers, ballet skiers and much more.

This series is not a fundraiser or endorsement of one candidate by the hosts, but a chance for thoughtful voters to develop their first, second and third choice during Minneapolis' first ranked choice election for Mayor. The first event is Wednesday, July 17, 5:30-7:00pm featuring Don Samuels and hosted by David and Kate Mortenson at their home, 4600 Fremont Avenue South. This show will benefit Interact, a professional-level visual arts studio and theater that supports the creative growth of artists with disabilities. Featuring the fabulous clothing of Local Motion and the one-of-a-kind art, artists and models of Interact. Adding to the creative atmosphere, the work of Interact's visual artists will be shared in unexpected ways. Tickets are $40 and must be purchased in advance as seating is limited. Sustainable Soiree - Harvesting a Healthier Community
