Executive Director Update

This afternoon MCC Member Penny Winton is hosting an educational program to introduce members to Pathways Health Crisis Resource Center. You'll find details and registration below. From Pathways' website:
"Have you ever had a health challenge so significant, it makes you rethink how you want to live? If so, you are not alone. Caregivers, affected individuals, volunteers and facilitators of healing, at some point in this journey, come to Pathways.
Pathways is a building, a space, and a community. It is a place set aside for exploring ways to come to holistic health through classes, special events, and individual sessions. By participating in the many free services at Pathways, you are supported in taking charge of your healing journey -- wherever that may lead." It's not too late to join us!  -- Linnea
Pathways Health Crisis Resource Center
Tuesday, June 18, 3:30 - 5:00 pm;
North Star Lofts, 117 Portland Avenue #601

Tim Thorpe, executive director for Pathways, will provide an overview of complementary therapies and the research-supported outcomes experienced by those with illness as well as their caregivers. MCC Member Penny Winton and her late husband, Mike Winton, were among the original founders and have been major funders of Pathways. It was their conviction that individuals with life-threatening illness need not be defeated by their illness but can discover an expanded sense of self. Stories and feedback collected from Pathways participants will be included in the program. Penny Winton hosts.

Join Penny Petersen, author of Minneapolis Madams: The Lost History of Prostitution on the Riverfront, for a lecture and book signing on Thursday, June 27, 7:00 pm, at the Mill City Museum, 704 South Second Street. Her book is a riveting account of the late 19th century Minneapolis red-light districts and the powerful madams who ran them. The madams hired well-known architects to design their brothels, reshaping entire neighborhoods and contributed to the economic life of the city and exerted influence over politicians and civic leaders.

Did You Know?

Celebrate your connections with fellow Mill City Commons Members at tomorrow's Elegant Urban Garden Party! Mill City Commons programming provides many opportunities to develop and strengthen friendships and social connections. Social support from family, friends and peers is critical to health and well-being. An article from the Mayo Clinic correlates high levels of social support with improved health and longevity. Our social networks bring us a sense of belonging, decrease our feelings of loneliness and help us to cope with stressors. Social support networks strengthen our self-worth and can often be good resources for assistance and counsel.
