Cultural Landscapes, Design and Historic Preservation
Revealing the opportunities and constraints in converging disciplines, this University
of Minnesota College of Design lecture by Charles Birnbaum will focus on the
segmented divide between design/historic preservation and nature/culture - and
how this information is consumed by the public. The lecture will be held on Monday, April 15, 6:00-8:00 pm, at the University of Minnesota College of Design, Room 100, Rapson Hall, 89 Church Street SE. For more information, click here.

State of the River Presentation
How is our Mississippi River? Is it okay to swim in? To eat the fish? Should I worry about Asian carp? How are the eagles? The National Park Service and Friends of the Mississippi River have collaborated to provide some answers in the form of a "State of the River Report." Click here to access the report. The report's authors, Lark Weller and Trevor Russell, will present the report on Thursday, April 17, 7:00-8:00 pm, at Minnehaha Academy Chapel (North Campus), 3100 West River Parkway. While strongly supported by science, the report is presented in a non-technical manner for the general public. It highlights 13 key indicators of water quality and river health in the metro Mississippi River. A Stewardship Guide of river friendly tips for home, yard and community practices will also be available at the presentation. Sponsored by Longfellow Community Council's River Gorge Committee, the event is free and open to the public. Park in the east lot (access lot from 32nd Street South) and enter at the clock tower door. For more information, contact Lyndon Torstenson at 651-293-8426.
