This Sunday members will be gathering at Security Warehouse Lofts for our monthly Soup Soiree.
MCC Member Liaison Carol Jordan and Bob Callahan host. Details and a link for registering follow Social Bridge below.
We love to hear from our members on ideas for programming. The Program Committee meets next Tuesday, March 12 to finalize our April calendar. Please let me or MCC Program Committee Co-Chairs Patty Connelly and Peggy Lucas know if you have ideas and/or want to get involved. Thanks!  -- Linnea

Did You Know?

A restful night of sleep helps us to be at our best during the day!  March 3-10 is National Sleep Awareness Week.  An article from Caring Right at Home discusses the relationship between sleep and health and states that poor quality sleep can exacerbate the impact of stress-related inflammation of the brain and body and can increase our risk for health issues such as diabetes, stroke, heart disease, obesity, depression and disability.  Many people do not get adequate sleep.  The National Institutes of Health recommend 7-9 hours of sleep per night as we age.  Many people have problems falling asleep or wake up frequently during the night or experience sleep apnea.  The NIH reports that older adults may produce less melatonin, the hormone related to sleep, and may be more sensitive to noise or other environmental factors.  Poor sleep habits can decrease our quality of life by impacting mood, attention and memory, and can lead to feelings of drowsiness during the day and a higher risk of falls.  Strategies to improve sleep include managing stress and chronic conditions, maintaining a regular sleep schedule, creating a better sleep environment, raising physical activity levels during the day, avoiding naps, reviewing medications for side effects and interactions, and avoiding caffeine and alcohol, especially late in the day.  Consult your physician if you are having trouble getting a good night's rest.
